i know alot of you guys on here have heard of the vht nightshades. ive done my tailights, 3rd brake light, and have had a thread before about my park lights with my intials in them. well this time me (truck in my sig) and my buddy (84 chevy silverado) decided to tint my park lights and the corners the right way. the first time all i did was tape everything off but this time we pulled them out and took them inside. mainly because it was too cold outside but oh well. what a pain these things are to get out!!
i dont know what it was with my camera lens the day i took these but ill try and get some better quality ones. the park lights are almost too dark and ill probably have to order the smoked one off ebay some time but we both really liked my corner lights. they turned out a kind of greyish blue tint?
Im considering doing the headlights too. Just a light smoke like the corners. I wanted to see if i got any cop attention first lol.
I like the light smoke. Got a link to the product your using ? Any idea how it would look against the amber of the turn signal ? I dont care for the blacked out look. Keep us posted on the 5.0' attn.
you cant really smoke the turn signal where it is amber. it just doesnt look quite right to me. thats why their so black lol. if you just wanted a smoked look i would go with the smoked lights off ebay like im probably going to.
ive used two different products. ive used the vht nightshades and ive also used rustoleum lens tint. i cant really tell a difference between the too when using them but i think the rutoleum may be a bit cheaper. seems to me the vht was about 12 or 13 bucks a can but it goes a long way.
so far ive tinted:
5 sets of taillights
3 third brake lights
my front lights twice, and my buddies turn signals once and ive used 1 whole can, and about half each of two other cans.
ill tint my headlights later when it warms back up. i might wait til i get a set of hid's first though. the clear lens gives it kind of a greyish blue tint. i think that would look sweet with some 6 or 8k hid's. as far as 5.0 attention i havent gotten anything. i have blacked out tailights with dim blue led license plate lights and have had cops stopped right behind me at redlights numerous times and nothing. same thing with the headlights. cops around here dont really care i dont think. one of my friends had blue leds in his grill and a cop pulled him over for that and made him take them off but thats it.
i know what you mean 86' everyone around here was for awhile but its kind of disappeared now. the big thing here is halo's. i kept my tailight tint because i like the way it works with my black truck. if you go dark enough and just glance at it you cant really tell where the bed is and where the light part is. i did have to sand off the reverse light like you mentioned.
theres always some kind of fad going on. right now everyones switching to diesels and blowing smoke everywhere. thats why all us gas guys are getting stickers made that say "black smoke means its a joke!" no offense to anyone on here with diesels. i like them as well but not with ignorant rednecks that go around rolling coal at every redlight like around here.
I bet you can't wait till that VHT crap starts cracking and fading, I did my 94's lights (Nearly got'em TOO dark) and about 4 other guys did theirs, 2 months later, EVERYONE has crappy looking lights....So I opted on this truck for just buying the smoked lights themselves....
I would NOT recommend Nightshading the headlights at all.
For those saying it ends up looking bad.
All about the prep work just like any other paint and a nice clear coat to keep it shiny. Then more wet sanding and buffing them to perfect smooth surface.
