Yea he says the motor is locked up. No biggie. It is perfect for me to sink my teeth into. Hell it is cheap enough to rebuild. I am thinking of using this in my '66 shortbed slick. What do you guys think?
Cheaper than what I have been finding in my area. I figure if it is a basket case I can easily get my money back out of it scraping it. But really I wanted to find something I could play with. I like to learn, I learn best by just tearing it down and rebuilding it. I think Oreo found on that is running for 750 but that is in another state. I would spend a lot of money getting it down here. There is a thread on here somewhere. It is pretty recent.
The hydraulics on that should be worth something, at least above scrap prices. The turbo should also be worth something, and there should be at least some engine parts salvageable even if it grenaded.
Speaking of 4BT's, I forgot when we were talking about them in that other thread, there were a lot of them used in Case skid steers too, so that may be another source if someone is hunting for one.
Yes greywynd Case used the 4BT in their little skid steers, rollers and some other road and off road equipment. We are negotiating on price. I am sure I will get it down a little...LOL I will let you know when I get it here on Sunday!
Is yours 2wd? The I-beams will handle the engine fine, might need stiffer coils though depending on the weight.
It should be neat with a 4BT under the hood.
I saw a Yellow Slick F250 with some crappy bed on it, somehow lowered, but it had chrome stacks and they looked pretty good. The plumbing wasn't very good, but the stacks fit the profile of the cab pretty good.
Lemme find 'em if stacks are your thing...
A shortbed Slick with a 4BT/NV4500/9" sounds like a pretty cool daily driver. Probably awesome MPG's!
If you follow thru with this in the Slick, you're gonna have to take lots of pictures
Yes I have seen both of those videos...LOL I don't really care for the 64 but that Blue one is NICE! Mine is a 2wd. I know that my current 66 needs some serious attention. It does run and drive but it needs new cab mounts. I guess that isnt that big of a deal. I would really like to have front disc brakes at least. But that would require cutting the frame for a new sub frame wouldn't it? Or can I just buy them and install them without compromising the frame? Things like that I dont know.

Way easier, 73-79 2wd I-beams will bolt into a 65+ chassis, and that will give you discs up front
Don't worry, my body mounts are very custom...warehuse racking all cut up and bolted in. We didn't have a welder at the time, so there's angle iron and shelving under there. Been a hard 5 years, still there.
And I don't understand why discs are so good...my 4-wheel drums on the 65 F350 will lock up all 6 wheels and I can spin that whole truck around on dry pavement. I've had it on 2 wheels before...now that's scary!!!!
The front discs, rear drum setup on this 85 SUCKS compared to those 4-wheel drums...
Really? hmmmmm well I must think about this. My 66 does run and drive. It just shutters HORRIBLY in reverse. The ole 3 speed is done I think. Either way, drums should stay. Obviously a matter of opinion here. I just need to determine what I want to do I guess. When I brake it pulls to the left, must be some air in the lines. Ah hell why not put it in there just to see what I can accomplish. Then worry with the other details of the trucks. I am sure you and I are going to be visiting quite a bit really. I think I would like it to stop as quickly as it will take off! LMAO I sure wouldnt mind having power brakes either. Funny how spoiled I have gotten. My first car was a '68 Impala, my first truck was a 66' F100 shortbed my second was a '64 1/2 ton Chevy. No frills on those either. And this is my second slick because my brother thought my first one could move trees at 55 mph....LOL He knocked that 352 freakin sideways! The 4 spd shifter hit the dash then knocked him out! LMAO!!! Lucky I didn't get to him first!! I would have knocked him out as soon as he woke up!!! LMAO!
Hmm...install the 70's I-Beams for the disc brakes and power brakes and that'll help you out for sure. You could also get a disc brake kit for the 9" rear if you wanna get wild.
Seems like if you go the 4BT coupled with a NV4500, that would make for a SWEET daily driver! I don't know squat about them, but they're said to be a 6BT with 2 cylinders chopped off. So I assume they can be built up to make some serious power...that would be a sweeeeet rig man!
When my 65 is all done, I plan to attend the IDI rallys for fun, so when there's one out West, I guess I'l just HAVE to swing by and see ya!
NO DOUBT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well like I said, I am sure you and I are going to get to know each other as time goes. This little project is going to be fun time consuming and costly....LOL So I will have the camera ready and the video camera ready for the youtube videos! LOL
A 66 with a 4BT would be sweet. The 73-79 I-beams are, in fact, a direct fit. Have done it myself, many moons ago, on my old 65 F100. I HAD to have disc brakes, to shut it down with that 410 FE/T18/3.25 locker 9".
Just today, I was discussing things with a buddy of mine who owns an auto/diesel repair shop. He got tired of the 6.blowup in his truck, and dropped in a 12V 5.9. Anyways, he wants to build a 65-79 f100/150 shortbed, with a 6BT and C6 or TH400. I tried to convince him to go E4OD for that low revving cummins......
This discussion started by me telling him I want to put a 6.9L IDI-T/C6 in my 80 F150. By the end of the discussion, he saw it was pointless to talk me out of the 6.9/7.3, and I saw it was pointless to talk him out of a cummins.
But, we both agreed that the king pin I-beams used from 65-81 1/2 tons should be plenty stout for either a 6BT or IDI, so a 4BT would be fine. They're only 100-150lbs heavier than a FE or 460, while the 6BT & IDI is 350-400lbs more massive.
BTW, this "discussion" took place just outside of Tulsa......
Yep. Just SW of Tulsa. Over in Sapulpa. My buddy does IDI/PSD/Duracrap/Cummins work, along with stupid little cars. He doesn't understand my fondness for Mazda Rotaries, though...... (I have 3)
