Is this hard to do?

I seen this truck today while driving down the road. I like the tail lights. I was wondering how hard it would be to install something like this in my fenders.

That looks like a GM truck step side box.

You can just cut holes in the fiberglass fenders and insert them in.

Both points are quite true.
It's a bit harder to find lights that will be highly visible, due to the angle of the backside of the fenders, but very doable.

There was a guy by me in my pulling circuit that put those lights in a 86 flairside. To make them visible from the rear he boxed out the rear of the fender. It looked like ASSSSSSS

Trucks TV or Truck-U or one of those shows did something very similar on an episode not too long ago. I believe they used Vette taillight housings. I'll see if I can locate a clip from the episode.

I think that was Gearz with Stacy David. He put them on a 59 Ford truck. Is this what you were thinking? It's at the end of the video.

I like those tail lights. That looks sharp as he**. Wonder how something like that would look on my step side fenders.

From a mechanical installation point of view this should be easy. You will need to figure out your new light set-up to include brake lights, turn signals, back-up lights, and plate light in order to be legal in most, if not all states. I would get the lights, and have a sticker type template made to position exactly where I would make the cuts. The fenders are fiberglass, so they probably can be cut with little more than a Roto-Zip, Dremel, or some other spiral saw. Also, if it were me, I would make about a dozen practice cuts on an old fiberglass shower perfecting the motions, and the cut-out size. I would exercise alot of caution in doing this, as I recall the fenders are a unique compressed fiberglass, and if you change your mind, or screw up a cut, you might have no option other than to throw them out, and find "new" ones at a salvage yard.

Caddy tail lights are a popular mod for the "Street Mini-Truck" crew. Find someone who is good with Photoshop. They can edit a picture of your truck with different lights on it.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your input. He was talking about building a small box next to the stake hole and putting them in there. I was thinking, if I did the caddy lights, to remove the chains, install a latch inside the bed, and fill the hole at the top of the stake, and install them in the stake next to the tail gate.

On our trucks, the tail lights wrap around the side so they double as side marker lights. If you do this mod to the Caddy tail lights, you would need to add side marker lights/reflectors to the side of the bed to be legal.

My bed is a step side, so no wrap around tail lights, nor side markers in the rear.
