my buddy has a set of ford bed rails on his truck that have been discontinued. The box they came in list a part # e3tz-9932230 b. His is a short bed. I found this same part # at dennis carpenter but its for a long bed. Sunstate ford in fla. has this kit with the designated b at the end. How do i know if its for the long or short bed. The parts guy at sunstate said all he can go by is my part #.
I think Dennis Carpenter only has the short box ones and the long box ones comming soon unless they changed it. If you need short box ones buy them and and if they are the long box ones just cut them down. I did that with a set of them for my last company truck, just cut a little off of each end. If you need the long box ones that is what I would worry about. Dennis Carpenter is really good deal with and all of the parts I have bought I am pleased with. You could alway phone Dennis Carpenter and ask if they are for a short or long box.

The box they came in list a part # e3tz-9932230 b These are for 1983/92 RANGER'S with a 6' bed only!
I found FTE member Phil105 a NOS set of bedrails that had the application of 1987/96 F150/350 short bed. He bought them, installed them on his Bumpside short bed...fit perfectly.

13 FoMoCo Dealers have 21 of these kits. I'll post the sources if anyone's interested.
Oh and btw: E3TZ-9932230-B = 1983/92 6' RANGER Chrome Bed Rail Kit.
The part number will not be the same if for a long bed or if black, which was also available:
F150/350: F3TZ-9932230-C = 8' bed Chrome / F3TZ-9932230-D = 8' bed Black.
Part number sources: 1980/89 & 1990/2001 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalogs.

(sigh) It cannot have the same part number if for another vehicle. I know how FoMoCo's part numbering system works...since I was a Ford partsman for 35 years.
32230 is the basic part number for any bed rail kit. 99 is the body style code for a Styleside pickup, thus: 9932230. When you add the specific prefix and suffix, this gives the application.
E3TZ-9932230-B .. 1983/92 Ranger 6' Bed Chrome Bed Rail Kit / Obsolete
Last MSRP: $134.67 // Dealer net cost: $101.01.
11 FoMoCo Dealers have 12 / 2 obsolete parts vendors have 1 each.
There are three other bed rail kits for 1983/92 Rangers:
E3TZ-9932230-A = 6' Black / E3TZ-9932230-C = 7' Black / E3TZ-9932230-D = 7' Chrome.
i checked back at dennis carpenter. Rail kit for the bumpside is d3tz instead of e3tz, but all the other numbers are the same.9932230 , b or c depending on 6 or 8 ft bed.I feel better knowing im getting the right package.

I'd listen to NumberDummy if I were you - I got the rails he found for me and they fit/look great.
thanks for yalls help. im aware of number dummies reputation. thats why i posted here instead of elsewhere. The rail kit he mentions does look nice, but im after the kit for the smaller ranger with 6 ft bed.Its a little shorter, 68 inches with a little lower profile and sleeker look. It just sits really nice on our style trucks. When i saw them i new thats what i was looking for. I wanted to make sur i had the right part #, since parts guy wouldnt tell me what was in the box. Thanks again.
Thanks Bill - for the compliment and the "find". I really like them too. Gave me just the look I was after - the "Country Gentleman"!!
P.S. - before you notice and mention it - I removed the Reese hitch and put the original one back on it - looks much better
Question: When you go scrounging, do you drive this truck, or do you drive an old beater that reflects you have limited dinero?
I was scrounging a junkyard last week. While I was trying to chisel on the price of some hubcaps, the seller said, pointing to my 2011 F150: "If you can afford that, you can pay my price!"
I ended up with the caps...but had to pay a bit more (10 bucks each) that I wanted to.
Question: When you go scrounging, do you drive this truck, or do you drive an old beater that reflects you have limited dinero?
No, I don't drive this truck anywhere except some days to town and back for breakfast - unless to a show somwhere. For junkin I am usually in my 04 F150 - no pretense there!
Wish I could afford one of those new ones like YOU!!
