Auto Lock Function

Everything works in my Ex but the Auto Lock Function. After everyone gets in the Ex and I place it in gear, the doors stay unlocked. How do I enable the autolock function?

BTW it is a 2002 Ex Limited 4x4. My brother looked at it with his meter, (he is an auto mechanic) and could not figure it out. The door code works, the lock buttons work, every function works but the auto door lock.

We tried "turning it on" per the sequence but did not get it to work.

Any Ideas?

Thanks in Advance.

How did you try to program it?

According to the owners manual there are three different ways:

"Deactivating/activating autolock
There are 3 methods to enable/disable this feature. One through your
dealer, the second with a power door unlock/lock sequence and the third
with the keypad.
Before following the activation or deactivation procedures, make sure
that the anti-theft system is not armed, ignition is off, and all vehicle
doors, liftgate and cargo doors are closed."

another thing to keep in mind, the doors don't lock right away, you have to be traveling above 5 MPH:

"This feature automatically locks all vehicle doors when the following
conditions are met:
• all doors are closed, and
• the brake is pressed before reaching 8 km/h (5 mph), and
• the ignition is in the RUN position and the vehicle is traveling more
than 8 km/h (5 mph)."

I don't have the owner's manual for my '02 Ex - any chance you can post the actual steps involved so that I can set this up?

I just came in from trying the procedure above and the horn did not beep.

Any other ideas other than taking it to Ford?

I found an alternate procedure that uses the keypad on the door, along with the original method.

To enable or disable autolock using the keyless entry keypad:

Enter the five-digit permanent entry code into the keyless entry keypad.

Within five seconds of entering the code, press and hold the 7/8 button on the keypad.

Within five seconds of Step 2, and while holding the 7/8 button, press the 3/4 button on the keypad and release it.

Within five seconds of Step 3, release the 7/8 button on the keypad.

If the autolock sound is disabled, the horn will chirp once. If the autolock feature is enabled, the horn will chirp once shortly and then sound a second time with a longer sound of the horn once the above sequence is completed.

Autolock Enable/Disable — Using the Ignition Switch

Another way to turn the autolock off/on is by following this series of steps:

Confirm that the perimeter alarm is disarmed.

Close all doors.

Confirm that the ignition switch is in the OFF position.

NOTE: Steps 4 through 8 must be performed within 30 seconds.

Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN.

Press the power door lock UNLOCK button three times.

Turn the ignition switch from RUN to OFF.

Press the power door lock UNLOCK button three times.

Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN.

Verify that the RAP module chirps the horn. This indicates that the RAP module is now in the enable/disable mode and ready to accept program changes.

Press the power door lock UNLOCK button one time to command the RAP module to toggle the autolock/relock feature OFF.

Press the power door lock LOCK button once to enter the command.

Verify that the horn chirps one time to signal the RAP module confirmation of the command. There should only be one chirp indicating that autolock/relock feature has been disabled. If one chirp is heard, followed by a longer sound of the horn, the autolock/relock feature has just been enabled. Return to step 10.

Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position to exit the enable/disable mode.

Exit the vehicle and verify that the RAP module chirps the horn once to indicate that a feature has been changed and that autolock/relock has been disabled.

The enable/disable mode allows the autolock feature to be turned off and on. On manual transmission vehicles, when replacing the remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module, the autolock feature must be turned off by using the enable/disable mode. The enable/disable mode is entered when the following series of steps is performed:

1. Confirm that the perimeter alarm is disarmed.
2. Close all doors.
3. Confirm that the ignition switch is in the OFF position.

Note: Steps 4 through 8 must be performed within 30 seconds.

You can get the full manual in PDF form from http://www.fleet.ford.com

And you some times have to do the procedure more than once to get it all timed right. Also, if you have a door ajar sensor on the blink, it won't think all the doors are closed and not allow the procedure. Stick to it and you'll get it. I love using the autolock, keeps the kids from falling out unexpedtedly

Thanks Jasonodsky:

Your right it took a few times re-doing the procedure until I got it right!

The Autolock is working now.

Thanks again everyone.
