Trouble with key or ignition switch? 1987 F250 diesel
Well bought this back in Jan only put 400 miles.
Key ignition were REALLY HARD to turn in start position. Couple times of use become loose.
Now went to car washer and turn off no issues with key it come fine. Then put key in and turn on wait for glow plug light go out then sudden there no spring loaded in start position anymore and won't start. Try couple times it wouldn't start. End open hood and jump that relay with screwdrive it run.
I been struggle find why it so hard to turn in start position and there no spring action anymore.

you have a few potential causes here.
first, the ignition switch itself could be bad.
second, the switch could have come loose from its mounting on the column.
third, the linkage between the lock and the switch could have failed. there is a small gear attached to the back of the lock cylinder that meshes with a flat gear (think rack and pinion) that pushes a linkage arm to the switch. i've had this gearset fail, producing your symptoms. IMHO this is your most likely cause.
in any case, your first course of action should be to remove the plastic cover over the steering column, and determine if that linkage arm is moving properly, as this will pinpoint a problem at the switch end or at the lock end.

How do you "sync" the rack with the gears-
