So I recently bought a 1988 f250, ext cab, long bed, 4x4 with a 460.
It sat for a few years prior to me purchasing it. The po said it ran great before he parked it because of gas prices.
What could be the reason on why it won't start?
It turns over, acts like it wants to start, but as soon as the starter is disengaged, nothing happens.
Could there be a simple fix or really indepth?
I believe its a fuel related issue.

You'll have to get the"few years"old fuel out of the tanks and replace it with fresh gas.Clean out the lines and likely the injectors. You might have to drop the fuel tanks to thoroughly clean the pick-ups/pumps.I've never dealt with old gas in EFI but I have with carb, and had to drop the tank and take apart/clean a carb to get an engine to start.Old gas is nasty,it attracts moisture,it gums up parts and won't ignite.

So it could really be that simple?
Sounding at least, I know its a pain dropping gas tanks, unless there's an "easy" way to do it.

I always have used an outboard motor gas line with primer ball...put the hose right into the gas tank fill spout.

I got as much gas syphoned out of each tank as I could, the rear tank had some really nasty gas in it.

I'd like to remove the bed, would there be any helpful tricks in removing it?

remove the bolts, unhook the fuel fill lines from the bed, unhook the light plug from the back of the bed, and lift it off. weighs around 450 lbs. 4 strong people can lift it off with no problem.
