53-56 F100 Cab Mounts

Does anyone have a complete picture and instructions for installation of the front and rear cab mounts and specs or know where I can find this information?

Thanks

The front cab mounts just sit on the metal tabs stuck on the frame mount. No complication there.
The rears have a trick to installing them. The bracket at the frame bolts on with the round radiused part of the bracket, down. The funny shaped rubber block will fit into the top of the bracket and the arm will ride on it holding it in place.
To install, have a jack and 2x4 under the center of the back of the cab with the bottom of the cab about an 1 1/2" off the top of the frame.
Install the top of the arm into it's mouinting spot in the cab. Slide the bolt the thru.
Assemble the lower bracket onto the lower part of the arm and install the funny shaped rubber block into the bracket. You might have to pry open the tabs on the side of the bracket for the rubber block to fit. Slide the bolt inplace to assemble bracket to arm. Swing bracket and arm up into position on the frame and line up the mounting holes in the frame. Use an punch to align holes. You might have to jack the cab up or down for final fit. Do both sides then tighten everything up.
As the cab can shift slightly from perfect center, I always check my side to side measurements to make sure the cab is perfectly centered on the frame. Just check it at the front cab mount, make sure the bottom edge of the cab is the same distance from the frame on each side, then tighten the cab mounting bolts.
Don't forget to get new cab plugs for the back of the cab access holes.

Bolt Size

Thank you for the information. I purchased a cab mount kit that has 6 bolts. There are 3 different sizes two each in each size. Can anybody tell me where each size goes? Thanks

If you are using the stock "dogbone" rear mounts the upper and lower bolts should be a snug fit through the metal sleeves pressed into the rubber bushings. The other two fit through the front biscuit. The 4 rear bolts are 1/2" OD. un-threaded shoulder that is 1- !/2" long. Overall length is 2".

What keeps the rubber wedges in on the back mounts. It just doesn't look logical to me.

The lip on top keeps them from jarring out but the cab lean one way or the other is what puts pressure on one side or the other. Keeps the cab centered. My guess. I sure wouldn't leave them out!

On my 55, like in the pic above, the 2 rear bolts are identical.

Im hoping this thread will come back and help me with my question regarding front cab mounts. I have two stock 56 ford f-100 frames. Both have the engine and transmission removed. Neither had any apparent cab to front sheet metal alignment issues before I dismanted the bodies from the frames. The front cab mount wings on both frames show no signs of wear or fatigue. When I place a level from one frame rail to the other, across the top of the front cab wings, the level touches both wings where they connect to the frame rails. As the cab mount wings extend further out, they begin to drop. At the location where the cab mounts contact the mounting holes in the outward ends of the mount wings, the wings have dropped approximately 1/2". Before I replace these cab mounts, I would like to make sure the stock wings were not level at the outside ends. Most everyone I have talked to says they should be level, but they have not checked it with the engine and transmission removed so the 1/2" I am talking about can not be detected by eye. Anyone have a posetive answer to this?

That doesn't sound right...the wings are lower on the outer edge on both frames, with no signs of bending or cracking? Are the wings still attached to the frame with the factory rivets? The only way this can happen, assuming all other factors are as stated, is that the frame itself has spread at the top of the rails. This WILL happen if the lower crossmember has been removed. I would take a measurement on the inside edge of the upper frame rail, side to side, and again across the lower edge. These measurements should be the same...if the upper rail measurement is larger then you have your answer.
