i have a 400 i wanna build for a tug truck. i've already done one before, but i want something better. however i cant afford a 434 stroker... i wish though. but any suggestions on certain pistons? i would actually like to do a roller style motor rather than hydraulic flat tappet just to do something different. any suggestions on cam or lifters? i've heard good stuff bout Crower, i've never done anything other than Comp. and can i get a girdle of some sort for this? im like anybody else, on a budget and high hopes. best bang for buck. so let me know what u can think of.
thanks

Call Tim meyer and run his quench chamber heads. weiand intake and roller cam. I'm partial with www.mpgheads.com in colorado, ford guys. scott cuts my cams and have never been dissappointed. Custom cut cams aren't much different than off the shelp. Also mpg can break in the cam for you if you go hyd or solid. If you shoot strait with him you get a good product. More info the better. compression, auto or manual tranny and gearing and application. mudder or tow rig/mileage or tow rig/performance or drag race. weight of vehicle? If you know your prefered rpms is a big help. good input means good output. Also a nice header to help get heat away from exhaust valve to help prevent detonation or preignition.
hyd roller cam. weiand intake. compression around 9.2 to 9.5. 650 to 750 holley design carb. Nice ignition MSD. multistrike design is prefered for low end torque. helps clean up air fuel in low rpm situation runs cleaner. short and sweet.
351C main cap girdles will fit the 400 or you can get 4 bolt main caps from TMI. Ididn't use one or the other because I'm not using it as a constant racer. But I did go with ARP studs on the mains. John
so the weiand intake is better than edelbrock? if i can go through with this, i wanna be able to attempt to drive it, but get the performance out of it that i can. it'll have a 4spd behind it, in a truck. gonna try to keep weight at 6500 lbs, cuz i dont forsee me getting one of these old fords to be stout yet sit at 5000lbs very easily. as far as main caps... would i be able to just order the caps and have my local shop do the machining for them or is that something super special? thanks
