If I go with a 4in. exhaust 3in. down pipe delete all and a DIY intake do I need additional gauges. I plan to do a chip/tuner later but would like to wait and get gauges then. Also are the exhaust fab shops just as good as buying from name brand vendors if the material thickness and type are the same or better. Thanks
You don't NEED guages with just the intake and exhaust unless you're going to be pushing it real hard then it would be a good idea. Otherwise wait like you have planned, that should be ok. I'd think the exhaust shop would be fine, I ordered my 4" pipe and 90 from summit.
You only NEED guages when your adding fuel, such as a chip or larger injectors. Now if your just putting in a striaght pipe then no gauges are needed now and you can wait and get them later with your chip. Sorry cant be any help on the exhuast question as i dont have any experience with them, but usually the vendors on here can get u what u want cheaper than a shop.
Yeah my buddy lives up by the amish very mechanical people up there and got a real good deal on a system. I 'll check it out. Cool I wait on gauges thanks
I know it is possible to make the DP....but it is so much easier to buy the DP. That first bend is right at the flange....not that easy to create, but it is possible.
When I rode with 66uni4x4 the other day, I was watching his gauges.
He's running a tuner with stock exhaust and intake and had no EGT problems or boost issues.
That might change with the DP and Intake.
But I was surprised how he didn't have EGT issues.
Mine are though the roof when I get down on it.
I think stock injectors are just not that hot.
If you toss in an intake and exhaust system. Your truck will run great.
If you tow a lot, you should have gauges just because.
When you watch them while towing, it makes you wonder how poorly some people have treated their trucks, because it doesn't take much to get the EGT's up.
And yea, The Down pipes are specially bent. So special in fact, you still have to clearance it between the trans and the firewall.
Clay has some Diamond Eye and.... whatever that other brand is.
You can order just the Down pipe from him and have the exhaust shop do the rest for ya.
I have the diamond eye exhaust and 3-4 inch DP from tymar. It all fit up perfect but I did weld most of it. Local shops couldn't even come close to his price.
As far as gauges go. I put a set in when I did the chip. I got the glow shift ones. They are awsome!!!! I can set visual and audible warnings that even my deaf old ears can hear so I don't need to watch them. I set the high EGT alarm at 1100 and no amount of mountain driving with the horse trailer has set it off yet. It has a max recall function too and it has only gotten to just shy of 1100 running in the tow or econo setting on my chip. My pump and injectors are still stock and I don't have an intercooler. yet.
The way things are going I'll be riding my darn horse around town real soon. Lately just keeping up the maintenance on the trucks has been too much almost. I drove 10,000 miles this month so far too!!! And still haven't changed the oil yet. I know I need to. If I could afford those new injectors and pump right now I'd do it. Maybe someone will donate some to a worthy cause.

I hear ya there, steering linkage, ball joints, and a host of other things are all done for on my pickup. Gonna be an expensive month for repairs.
