3.5 vs 6.2
#16
Not that it really matters but the 6.2 was slightly quicker in the 0-60 tests and the other speed tests I saw run. Do a search they're out there.
Can you get the 6.2 in Max tow with the 5.5' bed? I thought max tow wasn't available on the 6.2 with the 5.5' bed.
IMHO The EB is a much better engine and you can get a real length truck bed with it. The EB is not getting anywhere close to 21 so looking at that the 6.2 is likely to be 11 city 14 highway at best.
If Ford wanted the 6.2 to be a decent option they would have used a DOHC 4 valve platform to help with efficiency.
The 6.2 2 valve is a dinosaur that reminds me of the early 5.4's technology.

Interesting how this forum is so EB biased and the Fordf150Forum.com forum is very 6.2L biased. Strange how that happened. I clearly do not belong here with my soon to be "dinosaur".

The thing of it is that Ford on their path of over-engineering the F150s, has the shift points set where the each engine can best use its available power. Given this, the ecoboost (EB) has a broader powerband than the 6.2L leading me to believe that the EB will tow the best.
Setting the torque issue of towing aside, the EB out drags the 6.2L as well which suggests that the moderate advantage of horsepower is not as useable as the available power of the EB.
That said, the 6.2L will "sound" cooler but if you're like me, then quiet is more desirable than listening to an engine drone.
However, the EB is available only with a 26 gallon gas tank, a thing that will require getting changed out to a higher capacity gas tank. In other words, the EB will annoy the driver with more frequent fuel stops that the sensible 6.2L owner who ordered the optional extended range fuel tank can avoid without further expense.

The differnce may be what fuel are you running in the EB. Ford wants Premium in the EB if its working hard. Not so with the 6.2L.
Hey its all speculation... so far.

I think that EB is the big new idea so it gets the bulk of the attention/interest but, all of the engines available in the '11's are solid choices and I really don't think there are going to be too many people regretting their choice regardless of which engine they go with. If the 6.2 were offered in a wider range of F-150's I suspect that there would be more excitement over it too but, as things are it's just not an available option for the trucks that a lot of us are/were/will be looking at buying sooooo...
anyways, buy what you like/want, drive it, enjoy it. nothing else really matters (definitely not the opinions of a bunch of ppl you found on the internet).

Well I have a 6.2 and haven't towed my trailer with it yet. But however I'm going to get the opportunity to drive all five new truck on april 2nd. I will ask the people their to do a bit of a test if they let it happen. Drag the 6.2vs the eb when I'm their towing a trailer. This is all happening at a local drag strip Put on by ford. We will see what happens.

From elsewhere on the web:
'11 Ford EB 14.67 / 94.6
'11 Ford 3.7 15.87 / 87.69
'09 Chevy 6.2 15.52 / 94.13
'09 TuRD 5.7 15.68 / 92.63
'09 GMC 6.2 15.72 / 94.31
'09 Ram 5.7 15.80 / 91.83
'09 Nissan 5.6 15.96 / 89.04
'09 Ford 5.4 16.96 / 85.91
Edmunds tested a Toyota Tundra Double Cab 4x4 with the 5.7L and got a 14.8 @ 93.7.
Although the EB has a slightly faster 0-60 time, according to US Auto choice a Platinum with a 6.2L turned a faster 14.3 @ 94.2 MPH
Without a time slip it is hard to make direct comparisons but suffice to say that both the EB and 6.2L are close. Notwithstanding, I suspect both are hitting their speed limiters before running through the traps.

I Think if "Max tow" is your thing you might want to look at the F-250
The 3.5 vs 6.2 debate will take years to see really which holds up better. When new everything works great, years of abuse and real world beating by teenagers will tell the real story.
The 3.5 with no or limited oil changes will look 100 years old quick. Sludge could be a big problem in a turbo motor.
As A "truck" motor I lean toward the 6.2 , But will try to be open minded

Seriously man read the OP.
3.5 vs 6.2 drag race max loaded 1/4 mile. Identical trucks with max tow. That was the question. Not which motor should i buy, nor truck.
