Lower intakes do not interchange between the 5.0 and 5.8 at all. The 351 is taller and wider than its little brother 5.0,iirc the Cobra intake runs the GT40 style bottom/top port design, with that i've yet to see a factory 351 bottom intake run this design except for maybe the 1st gen Lightnings. there is also the ford racing 351W GT40 bottom intake.
Heres the Cobra
the throttle body is on the other side of the upper on the trucks ,does lightning intake mirror that of the mustang cause it would be awesome on my bronc if the lightning intake was a bolt on for trucks
The truck upper intake runners are longer for good reason. Air velocity when trying to build HP and torque lower in the rpm band. Shorter runners will just make that poor little 302 rev even harder trying to drag around a 5700# truck. $0.02 for what its worth.
I have a knock-off Edelbrock Performer EFI 5.8 lower and genuine Edelbrock upper from a discarded project truck gathering dust in the garage. I think - think - you can reverse the upper so the TB is on the driver's side like a factory manifold. Even got a 1" phenolic spacer to match I'll throw in to keep those runners long. PM me if you're interested.
looks like the gt40 upper will fit if turned 180 degrees so the throttle body is on the driverside .... i get the short runner /long runner thing ....but my truck sux in midrange i dont want to rev it to 6k but would like some more in the 3k -4.5k without loseing low end and i dont like the two blade tb thing anyway guess the edlebrock intake is the easier way........my 5.8L just stops making power at 3k rpm ,could use some
headers it just cant get any air
The long runners are what will help keep the low end power... that's why they are there in the trucks. And twin throttle bores certainly flow more air... exhaust restriction is KNOWn to be the bane of the existence of these trucks in stock form.
i have 2 1/2 inch true duals with 2in 2out flowmaster knock off, which i plan to change to change to magna flow or dynomax soon ,guess i need those headers .... long tubes maybe
The stock truck intake is not restrictive on a '91 5.8EFI, the reason your motor dies at 3000rpm is the stock cam. Swap in the Crane 444232 cam and lifter kit and fit some longtubes and you'll have a ton more power from idle to 4500rpm.
