Ok my frist question is wat psi should i run my propane at on my non-turbo idi. Second question is when i turn up my ip does it deliver more fuel all the time or does it increse fuel as rpm's get higher
It will always deliver more fuel at higher rpm no matter what you do to the fuel screw.
An idi non turbo needs more air not more fuel. You better have your pyro installed prior to any of this or you could melt your pistons in the first test run.
Turbo the idi and a propane injection system might be interesting, but non turbo all you are doing is adding more fuel to an engine that needs more air, not more fuel.
Theoretically you could lean out the mix of diesel and supply the propane to make up for it and potentially save some on diesel but you are removing some diesel and adding propane, theres no savings to speak of and it would take a long time if at all to pay for the install. You are better off just leaving it alone in this situation but thats my opinion.
First off lp has fewer btu's then diesel, about 5years ago i did lp experiments on a 350olds diesel, i had just done head gaskets in it and would only run about a 1/4psi in an 1/8" tube and at crusing speed you coould all but take your foot off the throttle but it didnt take long before the dry lp caused the demise of the motor. Lp is very dry and I'm told its hard on the top end the motor i had may have gone bed because it was a 350diesel but on an na motor it just seems too dry.
LP is 2/3 the btu of diesel. SO, that being said, unless the LP is less then 2/3 the price of diesel then its saving you nothing. its something you will have to play with big time, adjusting the fuel screw to even out the fuel so you can get it to not smoke. then, if you run out of LP then you are going to be left with not enough diesel fuel feeding your engine, you will have to pull over on the side of the road and turn it up.
It's great in gassers, works very well. In our beasties, it really is a pain to keep it in check. The point that oreo pointed out is something that keeps me from messing with it although i wouldnt have to adjust my pump, its just too many issues, safety as my number one.
its kinda like running ethonal in a gas engine. youll use more lp, to go the same distance on diesel. however i would guess that it would run cleaner with the lp. if you really want to do something, turbo it.
