What do i have?

I am still learning alot about these and dont know what i have a rear end. this is supposedly a 78 f250 custom but not real sure. it has been thoroughly frankenstiened. also i think that the 4 inch lift on it was factory. in a few days when i get days off i am gonna try and find the vin on the frame and run it to see what it is if it dont match the vin on the cab. here are some pics

rear end

lift block

those aren't lift blocks there the factory suspension... all the 4X4s came that way.. i likr to use them for lift kits however becuase of the factory u bolt girdles...the rear looks like a standard dana 60.. it should have a 44 or 60 front.. unless its a early 77 or even earlier it doesn't have a lift...sounds like a good truck anyhow

I see you have a 76/77 grille and positive arched front springs, do you have a divorced t-case? in cab fuel tank? crossmember under front bumper?

not sure about his ford, but yes i have a married transfer case and 8 lug wheels. i do believe the rear springs are 3inch wide. but i have leafs in the front to. so i am confused as i thought that most of them had coils in the front. but my springs are sagging some and need redone or replaced.

yeah the PO put that grill in it. but also the front fenders and doors and hood are from a 76. and the bed is from a 74 and the engine i think is from a 73 tbird but not sure. its a 429 and have no idea what it came from. t-case is married no in cab tank had duel tanks one big saddle tank on drivers side part under bed and part under cab, must be after market tank as its plastic. and the rear tank fit in between the frame rails. not sure about cross member under front bumper.

Would really love to find out exactly what i have and how to work with it. i can fix most anything mechanical if i can take it apart. but i dont have the knowledge or knowhow for alot of this s**t and it drives me nuts but i am trying to learn all i can.

Hang in there HeeHaw78, you will figure it out with alot of FTE reading, and I mean A LOT! Or locate some FTE'ers in your state and have a G2G (get together)/BBQ.

Great way to learn first hand, when you get a bunch of Ford nuts in one place.

For the most part all F100/F150 1/2 ton (5 lug) 2wd and 4wd 73-79 Fords have a radius arm/coil spring front suspension. Reg cab and Crew cab (4 door).

And 73-79 F250/F350 8 lug 2wd same suspension as above.

73-79 F250/F350 8 lug 4x4 have a leaf spring front suspension.

Now for a odd ball, I believe if you have a super cab (nowadays it referred to most as a extended cab) it will have a 5 lug set up but with front leafs, and is called a "heavy half".

73 to 77.5 have 2 1/2" wide rear springs and a frame stiffener between the front frame horns that can be seen under the front bumper.

With your married xfer case and duel tanks, sounds like you have a 78/79 frame. Invest in a good set of manuals of CD's to help you out.

Even a Chilton or Hayes manual will get you going in the right direction, and you can get them at Advanced Auto for like 10 or 20 bucks?

All above info could be BS, and I am sure someone will let me know otherwise if I am wrong.

And measure the width straight across the end of the lock in/out 4" D60, 2 3/4 or 3??is a D44.

Scrape off the gunk on the bottom pumpkin webbing and look for a HD44 to the left of the cover as you are looking at it.
