Help! I was towing through hills and my SES light came on. When I got home I plugged in my Bully Dog tuner and it showed 1211 and 0470 codes. I'm far from mechanically inclined. Any ideas??
First of all Welcome. The 1211 is ICP uncontrollable, the 0470 is an exhaust back pressure sensor malfunction. Probably unrelated to each other. Did you clear them and have they come back? If the 1211 comes back it is likely either an ICP sensor or IPR. Many times you can disconnect the ICP sensor and visually look for oil in the connector for a possible bad sensor, I'll try to find a picture of that sensor located towards the front of the drivers side head, near the fuel filter.
Here's a pic I found for various sensors, courtesy of Robin I believe.
the 1211 is very common if you have a tuner...do you? the 0470 (for me) was the sensor on the top of the tube. i cleaned tube and sensor and replaced, but still got same code. replaced the sensor...no more code. the 1211 code "should" only make the ses light flick on very fast. it just stores the codes. the 0470 is a "soft code" and doesnt throw a ses.
if no tuner, unplug the electrical connector for the ICP and check for oil in the plug...if there is oil in the ICP plug, need a new one.
good luck

Don't worry about it too much. The exact same thing happened to me last weekend as I was towing our 38' fiver through the rolling hills west of Tallahassee. I was running about 75 mph up a pretty decent little grade and there was a semi right on my azz so I didn't want to slow down. I pulled over and checked the checked the code (doesn't everyone travel with their laptop and AE?), sure enough P1211. It's caused by your tuner. I cleared it and it never came back. 0470 is a sensor which probably needs to be replaced.
