I know it's a long shot, but.... I was wondering if the outers from my '97 TTB front axle will swap on to a newer D50 straight axle. I only ask 'cuz I've got a set of 3/4 tons from a '99 that I would like to swap in to my '97. Before you start with the flaming about not just going with "tons"... I have almost no money in these axles, I want the gear that is already in these, the straight 50 is more than sufficient for my dd/tow rig, I want to save my almost new tires that are wearing at an alarming rate, and last but not least...I've already got a nice set of wheels I would rather not sell. Thanx for any and all info you guys may have on this subject.
Also, if I had to guess I'd say it wouldn't work unless you went knuckle out with it. The new stuff has unit bearings and the conversion kit to go to regular bearings and all is big money, I would think if it were this simple someone would have figured it out by now.. but, that's all I have is a guess.
Yeah...I kinda figured it would have to be the whole knuckle. I just hate the thought of having to go through the trouble of finding new wheels that are as nice as mine and then have the tires switched over.
i just went through this on here a couple weeks back. a guy on pirate confimed that obs bj d60 knuckles (same as a ttb d50) swap onto the nbs d60's. if the solid axle d50 outer c's are the same dimensions as a d60 then it will work to swap knuckles out.
