I asked this in the proper forum, but go no response.
I saw there are wide ratio C6 kits available, or you can use parts from an E4OD to get the same effect. I found a core for $50, but called to late to get it.
I have seen posts where people have talked about it, but has anyone done it, and if so how are you liking it.
Myself I plan to run 2.70 or maybe 2.50 gears behind my 352FE in my F100. Backed by a C6 with a 2200 rpm convertor. Obviously I don't plan to tow much, and I am more concernd with daily driving with small home depot runs.
The reason I am looking into this becouse my 3 on the tree is starting to show its age, and I don't want to put money into it. I would prefer to do this if I have to re-build my tranny, but if I can score a running one. I would run it as long as I can.
I've rebuilt quite a few C6's & I think the gear sets are all the same gear ratio, I could be wrong but I'm sure you can check to see if they are all the same, then get the one you need to fit your motor.
There is a lower ratio kit for the C6. 1st and 2nd are a bit lower making it a wider ratio which would be quite a bit better with freeway gears in a mathmatical sense atleast.
It apparantly comes from a E4OD, and I have to use some part from a 76 and up C6.

Not a bad idea with a really tall rear gear or a super heavy vehicle. I have used a couple sets from Ford Racing. Not sure if its avail any longer but other places most likely have or make up the kits. They also included roller brgs to get rid of the thrust washers. The thrust washer replacement in itself will make the trans last longer especially under high load applications.
Search for M-7398-F from ford racing to see if you can find one or that may lead you to someone else that has them. 4R100 trans also has parts that will work.
You can use the E4OD geartrain in a C6 with no problems. If you're looking for the steel planetary set you have to get from a 7.3L. All the small block E4OD had aluminum planetaries like a C6 but with wider ratio. It's all a direct fit into a C6 with the exception of the drive shell, you will have to machine the E4OD shell down about an inch or so. Other than that no problems. Try out AMK in Riverside for the parts, it will be way cheaper than TCI, and the can have a converter built for you if you need one.
Thanks for the info. I just wondered how people like them compred to the old ratios. I have a 1970 F250 2WD, 390, 31" tall tires & 3.73 rear gears. I drive the truck daily and use it towing a camper several times a year. I was just contemplating if this mod was worth it for my application.
