If you remove the windshield wiper arms (there is a release lever hiding in the plastic), then remove the plastic cowl and point a flashlight under a 3' long metal rain shield, you can see the air intake to the cab over on the passenger side. Probably not a good place to install a filter unless it is a firm one. If it sags down, water draining past the vent will wick up into the filter. There is also a piece of plastic sealed to the top of the rain shield over on the passenger side that, if removed, will give a much closer view. I do not know how the kits install in the interior, but perhaps you remove the heater cover under the dash and then install the kit. Perhaps someone with an Excursion knows how the filters work.
Since the AC coil is above the heater, I do not know how that would be protected by a filter installed inside. Maybe the unconditioned outside air goes through the heater coil first, then up through the AC coil, then into the truck?
