2011 F-350 6.2L
Found this cable hanging and rubbing on the front
drive shaft today. Also found where it belongs. I'm guessing
it is the temp sensor, guessing...
Anyone know for sure? It plugs up near the oil filter on
the left side of the engine. Must have just happened
as only a small bit of the foil wrap has been worn off while it
hung over the front shaft. I tie-wrapped it to keep it in place.
The first two pictures are from the F/L wheel well. The other two
are looking up at the bottom of the engine to the left of the
oil pan.
Will be plugging it back in and stopping by the dealer in the morning.
That orange cord inside the conduit looks exactly like the orange cord that runs my block heater.... I chased mine yesterday trying to figure out the routing to put in a cord on my dad's 6.0. All ours are only two prong, non-grounded plugs, so two wires fits the bill. Looks the same, down to the brass fitting into the block.
Seems to me that normally sensors run on smaller 14-16ga wire with Ford quick disconnects, crazy chase colors on each wire, and are packaged to death inside the wiring harness. If the truck didn't throw a CEL, it almost has to be something non-vital...
Wow, lived in PA most of my life and never had a gasser with a block heater. Not a bad idea though, especially further north! I did not know they were putting them on the gassers, I thought only the diesels got them. Learn something new every day!
Most of the vehicles in places like Montana and up in Canada have them on everything. The really funny part about these block heaters (at least on the 6.0's and 7.3's) is that all the engines have them, but only the trucks that came with the "block heater option" or "cold weather package" got the cord installed. I wonder if this applies to the 6.2's?
Any of you guys without this option wanna go look and see if you have the heater installed?

I'm wondering how many owners ever use them? I've got one as well but I've never bothered plugging my truck and I'm betting most others don't either.
Thanks all for the replies. I did have Ford include a block
heater and it never got cold enough here this past winter
to try it out. I will look for the clip this morning. Glad I could
be part of the learning process jimmyb.
If your rig has a block heater, you cannot miss the big plug
hanging just inside your grill.
No CEL and everything was working as far as I could see. Thanks
again all.
I ordered my 2008 V-10 with the $35 extra for the block heater. I've only used it once to see if it worked, it did. In the winter, it's nice to jump in your truck and have immediate heat for the defrost. Easier on the engine for starting in extreme cold as well. Good option for a gas rig but not as critical as it is for a diesel.
Block heater? There is usually a metal clip on the cord that holds it together. See if the clip slid farther down the wire.
All y'all were correct. Block heater cable, the retaining clip is gone
so the dealer is ordering a whole new cable(can't just order the clip). They were all
amazed to see one on a 6.2L gas engine and as pappy mentioned, it was a cheap option and nice to have. Thanks again...

So my 6.0 and 7.3 would have a black heater, just no cord??
I want to find out how to install the cord then, i see low 20s where i live
