Hey Ben, Welcome to FTE, post your VIN here, one of the guys will decode it for you.

If the truck has a 352 is should be a 65. The 64 had the 292 Y block. Another thing 65 was the first year for the twin I-beams, 64 has straight front axle.

No bed floor material is being made (vendors, are you listening?). You'll have to section some in from a donor bed.

Hi Ben. I am also new to this site and am SO happy to find so many people wiling to help. Truely a great bunch of people with the same love.

I also am in need of bed skin sections. The formost front section of the bed on mine is rusted out and needs replaced. I am in the process of getting all the body work done and I seem to be getting the same answer to my question from body guys - 'it has to be made up' - 'no replacement part sections available'. I have a great metal fabricator here but he is NOT cheap. This project means a lot to me so I decided to put my 78' 450 SL up for sale. I like the car but American Iron means more to me. :O(
If anyone knows if bed metal secions are available, I also want to know.

I have an idea. Is there anyone out there that has a parts bed they wouldn't mind cutting 4" strips out of? Should be able to get a lot of section from just one bed. I'm sure there are others out there that need the same pieces of metal. Just a thought.

Question

I just parted out a 66 and I cut the bed center section out the wavy part It's not perfect but better than starting from scratch what would a section go for?

Hey Masked Rider, i don't know where you are in CA. but PYP in Monrovia has 4 slicks right now! Great for harvesting parts such as bed floors... Oh one other thing, there is a hardware store in Cerritos CA. called Prescott hardware, they have a sheet metal shop that will manufacture panels really cheaply. they have made things for me that were higher quality, than I could get online!

Blisstruck, I don't know how much. Never bought a piece of bed metal before. The section I need is the widest section of the bed. Up towards the front. The rust is all the way across. Are you talking about the section between the wheels? Guess i could cut sections and piece it.
SO, interesting, why did you cut the center section out? Is that the section you are talking about parting with?

jetcoperpilot, I surely thank you for the heads up but I think thats a bit far for me to drive. I live in Watsonville, CA. Half way between Monterey and Santa Cruz. If we ever get a dry day, I'll check the yards around here. We have a bunch of em all clumped together in one area. They might have something. The guys working in the yard are always eager to make a few $$. They always have a cutting torch.

yes it's the center section, but aren't the corners just flat. the flat parts of this bed were rusty in the front corners. I am in Oregon so shipping might be as much as having it made but the rest was in good shape so I cut it at the seam on the flat panel side. If you want pictures let me know. there has to be some closer to you though.

I'm heading out to the yards today. Mine is rusted ALL THE WAY across the front of the bed. From left to right. And from the front - back about 1 to 2 inches. The way the truck was setting, water was there all the time. Had some boxes in there and didn't see it for a couple years that I was out of country. Damage done. ;o(
Thank you for the thougt.
Fritz
