Ok, I got a set of second hand quarter windows, and installed them, they are far better than the ones I took out, as in no rust in the frames...YAY
Before I replaced them, the passenger side one used to whistle, which it no longer does, but now the drivers one whistles!! I am guessing I need to fit new seals, the bummer is the seals are really good......any suggestions?
The new glass in the quarter windows is clear, and the ones I took out were tinted, any way of swapping the glass out of the frames without damaging the glass?
Thanks,
Shane
Make sure that the latch on the driver side window is pulling the window shut tight. If the latch is worn or the window has ever been forced open in a break-in, it's very difficult to get it to shut tightly.
I'm also curious on how to swap the glass out. I am also in the process of replacing my driver side vent frame, but eventually I'd like to use my original glass, because the window I got from the junkyard has a little overspray on it.
If the only problem with your junkyard windows is overspray............just take a single edge razorblade to it and scrape the overspray off. They even make a holder/handle for the single edge blades that makes the job safer/easier.............I'm quite sure a competent glass shop could swap the glass in the frames. The glass is just retained in the frames by some rubber adhesive tape that the glass shops should have.
Kiwi = You can try to get some rubber-weatherstrip conditioner as mentioned in most maintenance manuals. after a few applications they should start to soften up. This may or may not help with your issue.
fmc400 = These windows are held in with a strong adhesive. And a pain in the **** to get out without damaging. Try what 78 PEB suggested and/or some ultra-fine steel wool, it won't scratch the glass and it'll get rid of that overspray.
