Ok, I have to make up for my last few, mostly rediculious stupid question posts.. Well, here is one I hope won't draw a zero reply??
My question is what to replace the vent window glass seal with.. Black RTV or is there a tape that can be used?
After working for about an hour and half last night, using rubber solvent and a dental pick, I removed the glass out of the vent window frame. Oh I also forgot to mention three beers were needed!
Can someone tell me how they put their glass back in? My first thought is to use the glass tape that is used on our door window roller guides?
Any ideas welcome. Just don't say more beer!!! That is already a given..
Replace the wing vent seal with another wing vent seal? I believe they still make them. in the aftermarket. When I took my seals out, I stuffed them back (I re-used them) in after I lubricated them with dishwashing soap.
I just received new wing vent seals made with Original Ford Tooling from Dennis Carpenter which were $130 for a pair. Kinda spendy, so hopefully they fit well.
I think there are cheaper ones, but I have been very happy with D.C's parts, so I went with the "get what you pay for" thought and the Original Tooling aspect.
no no, he's talking about the stuff that actually seals the glass to the metal wing. i would also like to know, i just got my glass back from the tint shop, and i need the same stuff.
Black polyurathane glass sealer. The same stuff they use to glue in windshields and rear windows on newer cars. I had my wing windows replaced and that is what they used. It comes out of a tube like in a caulking gun.
D'C's stuff is Top Notch. The aftermarket stuff from some other places seals less than desirable. I had a set of the aftermarket stuff in my big orange truck ... lasted only a couple weeks before I tore the doors back apart...
ok, that is what i am talking about.. the goop that seals the glass to the frame wing.. The only problem I see with using the tube stuff is that you would have to have some sort of centering guide to keep the glass in the center of the frame.. otherwise it will move before it dries?
Tape IMHO would be a better option but I can't figure out what kind of tape.. the sticky stuff or the non sticky stuff???

..
D3TZ-1021608-A .. Right Vent Window Weatherstrip
D3TZ-1021609-A .. Left Vent Window Weatherstrip
The above also fits 1978/79 Bronco
FTEsponsor GreenSales has 10 each of the weatherstrips.
FTE sponsor BLUEOVALTRUCKPARTS in their online catalog (link on this page), shows a price of $59.95 for a PAIR of these w/strips.
Note to SoCal members: BlueOval is located in Anaheim, near Disneyland.
Hey thanks Numberdummy.. Now, are those vent sealsthe ones that the wing itself settles in? I will put my order in for those very shortly after I get the meteal all painted up..
My question is what stuff do they use to mate the glass and the metel frame with.. Tape? or glue? IE put the glass back in the metal frame.

Regards,
The vent rubber fits into a channel...no glue required. In fact, none of the weatherstrips used to seal the windows needs any kind of adhesive.
The horizontal "Cat Whiskers" that are on the door inside/outside at the belt are clipped on, the division bar weatherseal fits into a channel, as does the w/strip that runs up the back of the inside of the door, then curves over the top of the glass. On some models, this weatherstrip/channel is one piece and clips on. This w/strip type comes with the clips attached.
Only the door seals require adhesive. "3M BLACK Weatherstrip Adhesive" is available everywhere. > >
> > Buy quality weatherstriping from a supplier, clean off the remains of the old stuff and any residue (DO NOT USE SILICONE OR ARMOR ALL ANYWHERE) then apply the weatherstrips using the 3M adhesive. When through, use masking tape liberally to keep it in place, close the door till it just contacts the striker plate, and wait till it dries.
Remove the dome lamp bulb...otherwise you may end up with a dead battery with the door in this position.
btw: I would NOT recommend removing the doors to apply the new w/strips.
Re-hanging the doors and getting them aligned properly can be a real son of a b!tch. You'll end up using every cuss word on the planet, and prolly invent a few new ones!
btw, part II: Auto glass shops carry some of the strips (except the vent seals), and can do all the work for you.

Been there done that. Stupid scheiskoph did not listen when I said if you are going to take the door off, you need to take the fender off as well (hinge replacement). I come back an hour later as he is tightening bolts. I shake my head, meander off for a second, come back to see large chunks of paint missing around the door and fender edge, and a door strike that was now imprinted into the door.... He fought and I laughed (inside my head) for a good 20 minutes while he struggled to adjust the hinges by guessing, and taking the door off repeated times. Finally he got pissed off, and took my advice... TAKE THE FRIGGEN FENDER OFF.. He was done in 10 minutes once he did that.. (this was on a 90, but still...) Had that of been a customers rig, we would have been paying for an Earl Scheib Special. Lucky for him, it was the boss' tow truck, "screw it, he dont care" Heh, well, he cared alright, 2 hours to fix a hinge, and screwed up paint to boot. We both got chewed out, him for being an idoit, me for not stepping in and using common sense to do the job. I reminded the boss that it was not my job as the junior part time idiot to tell the full time idiot how to do his job more than once per job. A vulgar form of JE _ _ _ F_ _ _ _ _ _ _ C _ _ _ _ _! was stammered, and he stomped back to the office. That mechanic would drive me nuts wiht the stupid crap he would do....

Now this statement relates to my question .. I will try and get a picture for everyone.. I know I work better with pictures personally.. or so my girl friend tells me?
I just may have dropped the ball when I was trying to explain myself. Tape or Glue that is the question??? weather stripping is not the question.. or if it needs to be attached with glue..
My question is about the glass itself, and how it attaches to the it metal frame.. not the weather stripping that you can get from,"PLUG" Bronco Graveyard, Blue Oval, OR DC's
How duuuu U? put the glass back into the metal wing frame???
I need a beer??? Oh and I know all about that door hanging process, I wish I had talked with you a month ago before I took them off? OUCH!
