My 90 Ford Bronco dies when I put it into gear. I think I've narrowed down the problem, but only to one of a few parts. The engine runs fine when in Park or Nuetral. It's a tilt column steering wheel.
I found that if I lifted (pressed up on) the steering wheel, I could shift into gear without the car stalling. I took the steering wheel apart, including removing the upper cover casting. I was able to start the car with this all removed by pressing in the ignition rod by hand, and could shift (without problem) if I pressed on the ignition rod just right. I put everything back together and noticed when I shifted into gear that the cylinder lock (ignition cylinder) would turn just slightly counter clockwise and the engine would stall. If I held the cylinder lock still while shifting, I could do so without problem.
The cylinder lock seems to have some play in it and I'm not sure if the problem is the cylinder lock having play, or if the ignition rod running down the steering column has something wrong with it.
The rod is known to break. Have a look around here and the F-series forums and you will find numerous references to it. I've not heard this particular issue though. Typically, when it breaks, the truck simply won't start because the break won't transfer movement through it to the ignition switch.
However, I've personally dealt with a temperamental ignition lock cylinder and finally just replaced it.
Go with what Grey said, replace the cylinder. Also try cleaning your IAC, it probably isn't your issue this time, but it's the most common cause of engine stalling when shifting into gear.
