Newbie here...So I ve been reading here for a while but finally joined. I got the opportunity to grab a 1949 F-1 from a local guy here after looking for a few years now. I was told it was just the body and didnt run or drive which was fine for the price. Well I got it home put a little gas in it, a condensor and points and it fired!! It has had a 144 six out of a falcon (I think) put in it and a c4 auto which works as well. The brakes are drum but have a boost assisted system mounted to the fire wall now. Everything else seems to be there. I 've drove it and had fun with it for a while but now have it down to the frame and i am starting back so what seems to be the best place to get new parts? The only body parts i need are the back fenders but inside its fairly empty with just the guages and heater box (I guess you call) for the cab but no conotrols or ***** for it. Like i said I have the box but the motor doesnt work and the cover is gone. Thanks a bunch...

WELCOME TO FTE !!! You came to the right place for help. I built this with the help of the folks on FTE / Classic Haulers / and E-BAY. Ford built it and I MADE IT BETTER !!!!! Warning put on some cheap SUNGLASSES before veiwing this pic. LOL

 

Old F-1 thats exactly what i was looking for. Thanks a bunch!! The search thing is not so friendly....

 

Are you sure it's a 144? Those are one of the most truly gutless engines, even in a Falcon! I rode in the back of a Comet wagon with a full family and luggage, Chicago to Pennsylvania, it would barely do 35 on any kind of hill (not helped by a 2-sp auto tranny). 200 and 250 ci 6's are plentiful and cheap, that would be a worthwhile upgrade. Of course, so would a 302!

 

Yeah its a 144. Ive checked and rechecked. It pulled the truck along as expected, maybe the c4 helps?? I dunno. It also has a 3.00 9inch rear alxe out of a 73 Ford if memory serves me correctly from when i ran the numbers. The 144 was supposed to be around a hundred ponies so ive read. It pulls the truck along about like another local guy here with a flat six. But yeah its no powerhouse by any means. Not an engine im gonna leave in it. I'm actually a diesel guy so we'll see what ends up in it when im done . Looking at all options at this point.

 

You have franken truck but heck it runs and that is more than i can say right now.

I would love to see a powerstroke in one of these old fords.
