First off I'm still a newbie only used this site about 4 times. I need help figuring out what's wrong with my truck. I had a edelbrock 650 carb on it and it ran fine. I then decided to run a Holley 670 double pumper and it wouldn't run it will turn over and like fire for about a second. So I though the carb must be broken or something. I put the edelbrock back on and same thing happened. I noticed the fuel filter had some stuff in it so I cleaned out the tank and the lines and the filter. I also got a new fuel pump and it just does the same thing. Turn over fire then die. I checked my spark and it seemed to spark then kinda die down a bit so I got a new ignition coil and cleaned the connections from the ignition box. The spark seemed to be a lot better but the truck still does the same thing. It almost now seems start up but only while the starter is engaged. I have the old ignition switch so I put an old one in and it still does the same thing it just doesn't want to run. It seems to have starter right after I pulled the carb off though so I'm confused. If you have Amy advice p
Sounds like a short in your key on run to the ignition. Try wiggling the ignition switch plug first.
I'll try that !!! Where do u think the short would be exactly ? I already tried using a ignition switch that was in a running 77 as well and it just did the same thing
Seems kinda odd it ran well before (both) carb swaps....
No I didn't do a single thing ! That's why I'm so confused. I was thinking maybe I kicked a wire or something while I was sitting in the engine bay haha. But I checked over pretty much every wire

Off the top of my head hot on run is a red w/ green stripe resistor wire from the switch.
I can see why. The OP's description was pretty hard to follow.
To the OP: can you please describe the exact problem in a single sentence? You're saying it turns over, fires up, but then immediately shuts off? Is this CORRECT or INCORRECT? Your "troubleshooting" is all over the place. All I'm reading is a random story about replacing parts, and qualitative statements like "spark seemed better." I don't know what any of that means. Please describe the problem very clearly.
Sorry haha !! Yes here goes. The truck does not run right. You turn it over and it will turn over and it will fire up for about a second and then shut off , like if you were to start your truck then the second it starts turn it off. If I give it a bunch of gas while turning it over it will stay running for a few more seconds but only while the starter is turning the Motor over. Even when that does happen though it still does not seem like it is running correctly
Has the carburetor that's on it actually been tuned in any way? Is the float height or drop correctly set such that the bowl has sufficient fuel? What is the state of the choke?
Fire ( spark ) , Fuel ( the proper amount and quality) , Air , Compression . Get all those at the correct Time ! it should run . Start over with the basics . These usually are not hard to diagnose .
