replacing windshield in dent

hey guys the bodywork is bout done on the truck an I am needing to replace the windshield in it. Were would be a good place to get a windshield for one of these at? An would you go with the chrome or black windshield trim which do you think would look better an do better? I am adding chrome rollbar & bull guard & visor to it as well plus 33" BFG KO's if that helps on the trim. An if I would go with the trim were would you buy it from?

I installed my windshield last weekend. I managed to extract the windshield from a donor at the local pull a part with relative ease. You just have to cut away the gasket and push it out.

I went with the chrome trimmed kit (not on purpose), but I think I will like the breakup of the black. I havn't tracked down the chrome inserts yet, but I intend to make that the mission of my next pull a part excursion.

You have differnt options depending on how much you want to pay, or if you want original or after market.
Options
1. Go to NPD my book shows they have an original ford/ carlite, 67-79 for $228.95 just for the window.
2. Look on the internet, here in the classifieds, or in the parts for sale section, Ebay,...
3. Go have a new one made at a glass shop, big money.
4. Go to a junk yard and pull a good one out of a junkyard for about $20 bucks.

I did the last option, but if you do this you will have fun cleaning the green fungus on the edges. Once on a trucks episode the had some kind of glass cleaner that they mixed up, that was like past, and they smeard it on the window and buffed it out, you could probably google it.

As for the chrome trim or the black tim, the crome looks the best but chrome over the years especially in the sun will flake off and turn yellow. So the black is more durable. I wish i would have put the chrome in mine.

I work at a job that has a fleet of large trucks and a salesman from an auto glass place coldcalled there one day and he gave me what I thought was a good price on the glass for my truck, like $140 for the front and $120 for the back installed. When I got around to doing it, the glass installers called me back and said "by any chance does your truck have the wide chrome, if so, we cant do it, you wont be satisfied" something about that it would get bent or pinged up and they cant find new any more. Long story short, I just looked in the yellow pages and called a local shop, Kittrell auto glass and they did it. Yes, the chrome got pinged up a little but nothing I cant live with though, I believe mine is the tinted, I like it.

How does the tinted windshield look on these old trucks? I am wanting to keep mine looking like factory. Did they have the tinted winshield available for these trucks back then or just the regular windshields?

You can do it without cutting the gasket.
