Check voltage at the battery when the truck is running with an ammeter, should be around 14.6 if its lower you have a charing system problem. Most likely bad regulator or alternator.

Use a voltmeter, not an ammeter. A voltmeter measures voltage; an ammeter measures current.

With a Ford 1G alternator, expect around 13.2-13.6 volts at idle, 2000 RPM should crank out 13.8+ with headlights and heater ON.

Like FMC said, use a mulitmeter set to DC VOLTS, not amps.
