Continental Tire recall

I just saw this on pickuptrucks.com. Since there's been so much conversation on this forum, and others, about Continentals, I thought I'd share it.

Recall Alert: 2008-2009 Ford F-Series Super Duty Continental Tires - PickupTrucks.com News

ON EDIT: Looks like Sam and I thought the same thing at the same time... So, I have combined our threads. Great info in both.

Thanks for the info, John. I will have to check mine, but there is a very good chance that mine fall within those dates. But I bought them used on '09 wheels, so I will need to see if they will still cover them.

I guess the other question is, do I want another set of crappy tires?

If they do, get 'em and go to Discount and trade 'em. They should give you something decent for new tires.

That's a good idea. Maybe they will order them from General and give me credit toward something else without ever having to mount them.

hmm... I'm sure that my pickup falls into that... Thing is... I only have 4 of the contis left (one cut a sidewall so I replaced them all with BFG Rugged Trails)... It is probably worth trading out my spare... but would they take the other three, too?

I only have 4 also. I can't see why that would matter. I'm pretty sure the dealer won't be sending them back to General anyway. If you go to the dealer where you bought the new ones and explain the cut tire they might even replace all 5. Probably not because they will want to record s/n's.

I didn't get the tires from a Ford dealership. Bought them from a neighbor who owns and runs a tire shop.

Are you thinking the exchange would take place at a Ford dealer? That would be a problem for me too I think. I was hoping they would do it at any Continental tire dealer.

Wonder if you could do a trade up if they give you an allowance for those pieces of crap..I was just going to buy another brand because these get stuck and slip when you have a headwind..

Gee, if only they would have done this 2+ years ago when I scrapped mine for Michelins after only 2500 miles. absolutely the most squirelly tire, truck or passenger car, I've ever had in 35 years of driving.
