92 4.9 fuel system solutions

i have a 92 f150 4.9 with dual tanks and im getting cross flow from my rear tank into my front tank because of a faulty check valve on my front tank fuel pump unit. short of replacing the whole unit or buying an in-line check valve off line for about 60 bucks can i just plug the return line going to the front tank? the reason i want to do this instead of just using my front tank is because something is either clogged on my fuel pump itself or it is just going out on me because it makes my truck hesitate when accelerating.

No, the return line may or may not be putting fuel in your front tank depending on the condition of the shuttle valve.
Most likely the fuel is entering the front tank from the supply line with a bad check valve.

You need to put a stopper in both fuel lines (return and supply) to isolate the front tank.
Just turn down two bolts to the two sizes of the tubes on the FDM with your lathe.
The supply is larger then the return.
If you do not have a lathe you can go to a machine shop and they will turn them for you or if you are real good with a grinder you may be able to grind them down.

Or you could cut one end off of an old fuel filter (5/16"), weld the end shut, and get a piece of "fuel repair line" with the proper flare in 3/8" from the parts store, cut to length and weld it shut also. Unhook the lines from the front pump and plug these in. That's what I've done on my Lightning, as I removed the front tank for a true dual exhaust.
