Why I find myself worried about this when the truck doesn't start or go forward under it's on power is beyond me, but there is a method to this maddness. When it rains the passenger floorboard is a small lake.
I have siliconed around the windshield but still happens. Could it be coming from the firewall somehow?
I don't see any rusted out places.
I'm about to start working on the ole girl again and she will have to be set outside for awhile so I thought I'd get this done.
Id tape off areas like the cowl, door frames and similar one at a time. Try to eliminate it that way. Once you see a reduction, ill bet you are good to go to find it. I had a leak that came in where the a-pillar meets the floor trim piece, it would leak down and get on the floorboard. Never did find it but when they replaced my windshield, it went away. Go figure lol. Try removing trip pieces inside the truck too, just a few phillips head screws and you can have it all off fast.
I had water in my drivers floorpan at one point; it was coming in through a hole the PO made for mounting the running lights, into the space between the inner and outer roof, down the A-pillar, along the door frame and onto the floor. It could easily have done the same thing on the back of the cab, with the 3rd eye or rust holes etc...
Didn't find that till I pulled all the trim and was tracing wires to find out why my auto-darken mirror wasn't active...
I probably need to pull the window trim to get rid of some surface rust anyway. I am also going to strip the interior so I can clean and sound dampen it maybe I can find the source sooner or later
Thanks guys!
Take off the cowl and definately clean out all debris. When I got my clunker each drain at the bottom was packed, the drivers side so bad water would keep filling.
With no kick panel trim if you stick your head down under the dash you will see a bolted on plate on the wall of the truck going to the cowl drain area. Unscrew it and if it has never been off the weatherstripping or whatever may be gone like mine was. You are going to need to replace that with some good weaterstripping that can hold up to the elements. I tried to seal mine up with some rtv but it seemed the gap was too big to make that viable long term.
Also when I had my dash out to rewire, etc. I found hairline cracks on the thin firewall that allowed water to weep through. No clue how my truck was used but my body is also beat to hell so not sure if that is a normal thing.
I had a wierd little leak getting my carpet wet and when I pulled everything back that is when I spotted those cracks by eye and then could feel the water weeping down in the rain. I could put pressure on the area and feel the crack. Welding I guess is best for that.
