Cab light switch

Hi guys - I have a 2010 F350 Crew Cab short box 4 x 4 and cannot believe that the bed light (located on the outside rear of the cab) has no on/off switch - it only turns on when the doors are open or the truck is locked/unlocked. I would like to use one of my spare upfitter switches to turn this light on and off. Has anyone done this? I can figure out the upfitter switches but need some help finding the hot wire to that light.

Appreciate the help

Pretty sure that the interior/dome light switch will turn on/off that light. My '06 truck works that way.

It can be done. Pull the 3rd brake light assembly out (2 screws). There are 3 wires going to it, brake +, cargo +, and ground. Cut the + wire for the cargo lights, and tape off or cap the end coming from the harness so it doesn't short out. Connect the other end to an 18ga wire, and fish the wire over to the corner trim panel and under the door sill plates up under the dash and connect it to the upfitter wire. Done. Note, you don't have to pull the rear corner trim all the way off, but you will have to unbolt the seatbelt shoulder piece so you can pry the trim away. There's a rectangular hole up above and it's open from there all the way to the 3rd brake light area.

This. Unless they've changed the newer trucks, it should come on w/ the dome light - roll the light dimmer all the way down and it should turn on the interior and cargo light. Both my '95 and '05 work this way, have they changed the new ones?

The dome/cargo light switch is integrated in the dashboard dimmer.

roll it all of the way up, not down, and your interior lights and your cargo light should come on.

Yes, it is a PITA, but ford has still not run a separate circuit for the cargo light.

sheesh

Well, there it is, right in front of my nose. I swear I tried that - must not have looked outside or something. Thanks guys. I still may run it to the upfitter switch - it would be way cleaner that way.

Appreciate the help.

I hooked mine up to a separate switch and it is alot nicer to use now, I can switch it on at any time without having to have the interior lights on, and the light is not coming on automatically every time you open your door or switch on the interior lights!

Cargo Light Stays On

Hey Guys,

I have an F350 where the cargo light stays on for about 30 to 45 minutes after I have turned off the truck. It use to go off within a few minutes but since I went camping it now stays on for a really long time. I tried adjusting the dimmer switch but that didn't do anything. Any ideas? Thanks.
