Hello gentlemen, im hoping for some technical wisdom and/or advice. I have a 00 SD with the v10 today I launched a plug for the 5th time, and im sick and tired of it! The truck has 169,000 miles on it so after today I have decided to just replace the engine and hopefully ditch this problem for good. My question is, my ford dealer will sell me a remanufactured long block from Ford but cant tell me if the plug blowout issue, will be an issue again...the reman has a 3 year unlimited milage warranty thats all fine and good but that dont stop me from being stranded on the side of the road again so after some research it seems that ford fixed the problem in late 03 so would the 03 reman work in my 00? and would components off my old engine fit the reman? thanks for any help
You should look into swapping into a new or used 2V head from '02 to '04 (or up to '05 from a V10 Excursion) instead of a whole new motor. Save you some $$$. I believe they fixed the thread problem in '02.
I thought it was fixed late in 01 but may be wrong. Seems to me that someone at Ford would know if it has the newer heads with longer threads. How's that tranny holding out? If I were you, I'd trade it for a 2005+ with the TorqueShift tranny and the higher HP V-10. I presume you have used this outfit to fix your previous problem.
Ya the new heads are almost 3k the dealer i think felt sorry for me and quoted me 3245 for a long block with the 3 year unlimited mile warranty new heads only have a 12 month warranty
It may or may not fit your F250, but you can call them to see if they do have one that may work. I do believe the other years I mentioned above may work. Good luck.
Edit: Here's another link to a past post in the V10 forum that discussed about swapping heads.
Sounds to me like whomever was doing the plug hole repair either used the wrong kit and/or did not do it properly. A plug shooting out 5 times attests to that. I would get someone who knows what they are doing repair the plug properly. I would think by now you would need an oversize timesert, which are available. A properly installed timesert will last the life of the engine There are some pics on this site so you can see what your dealing with. Blownoutsparkplug.com Ford Spark Plug Thread Repair
The extra threads were added to the heads in the 03' MY however some 03's still do not have the extra threads. It depends on build date and what parts Ford had for production. There were few changes from 00'-04' on the 2V 6.8l, a later build date engine can be used.
