An 1/8" aluminum shield would work better as a heat shield. Don't attach it tightly to the box, leave air space and if you can shape it to scoop air from under the truck and in between all the better. Put a cooler in the return line where it can get air (Toyota put a cooler on this box if you happened to get it with the box).
I'm going to guess that you've got the engine mounted with it centered in the chassis. Is there any reason that you can't cheat the engine over to the passenger side about an inch? Many, many factory installations are offset. It's a common thing.
Edit - Vern and I were thinking the same thing at the same time!
add me to that...when I was going to put a 351c in mine I had planned for one inch offset for the same reason. It looks like you have the tubular mount like I had as well. If yours has not been welded up yet I would see if there is room to move it over. Just my 2 cents.
I agree! Even if you had to buy a new tubular mount to move it over it would still be cheaper than any alternative, and the Toy PS box works so well it would be a shame to go back to the stock manual box. You will need to move the tranny mount over the same amount, you want to keep the engine centerline parallel to the frame rails. As long as it remains parallel you can offset the engine as far to the passenger side as you have room. 2" offset is not uncommon, but 1" would give your box enough breathing room.

There are a number of OEM exhaust manifolds that would work but he wants headers...
I fixed the issue. I moved the eng. forward an 1" I cut the tube where my eng. mount bolt goes on the aft side and moved it forward. I forgot that I can move the rad. support to the six cylinder loction. I well send new pictures when I get it all done. Looks like I well have PS after all.
It would have as close as it was originally, but with an inch of clearance it should be fine. If it still tended to get hot then a simple inline cooler mounted in the airstream should take care of it.
