ok i had to break the dipstick mount to the manifold off to put my headers on because the jam nut was stripped. here i figured i had a 302 in the garage id just grab it off that one.. nope it has it in the front.. mine has i nut like going into the oilpan on the driver side.. so online i went and i saw lokar had a 1/4" npt flexible stick and tube $80. so i called parts bin dot com and he shipped me one that he said would work it came and i think its a push in style? is that what i have or can it work with this nut in my pan?? thanks for ny and all help.. its been a long week chasing dipsticks!!
Auto parts store. I pulled mine off some extra 3/8" fuel line I had laying around. For mine, JY push-in type dipstick tube off a 302, cut off the push-in end, slid on the flarenut, and flared the end of the dipstick tube. Helps to check your oil when properly filled before removing the old dipstick and mark it. I only say this, because I ended up using a JY dipstick off, uh, erm... something Ford, but not a truck and used the old dipstick to mark the new.
Sorry it's hard to see with all the mud, but it's in there.
ok soo i have a new pushin style i ordered .. if i remove my old one and cut the bottom off the new one, install the flare nut from old one flare the new one and install and add a new oil change.. 5 qts. and see where it reads i should be good?? adjustment with either the tube or make a mark on the dipstick for full.. correct.. thanks for this help!!
Get your oil level where it needs to be before removing the old dipstick setup. Your current dipstick will show you where the level needs to be.
If you change the oil, you'll have to add or remove a little to get it where it needs to be, and with the new dipstick, you won't know where that is yet.
well you see when i took off the stock manifolds the jam nut on top of the manifold bolt stud was too rusted and i just twisted the dip stick and tube around till it broke leaving it unable to be removed to get a reading.. (yeah dumb move).. i did forget about the filter too. six will be a fill mark if i just keep it a hair below most times till i rebuild it later and change the pan.. once i find one of them also a tuff piece to locate for the 4wd.. thanks though i think im on track.. ill take it off tomorrow and see what i got..

Look up an oil pan for a 79 Fairmont with a 302, Dorman part #264-023.
