hpop levels

If the hpop is down (1 1/4" from top) is this caused by worn lpop, or leaking ipr? or is there a way to tell?

The level sounds fine.

First question would be....does it drop to that level after refilling it? If you have ever ran your engine oil low, it can also drop the level in the HPOP. You can refill it in the same hole you checked it in. If it drops down afterwards, then my first thought is that it is draining back through the check valve but I have heard that is a very rare case.

Is there a reason that you are looking into you HPOP? Are you have starting issues or running problems? Oil leaks?

I thought that the level should be higher too, but I think that some have ran this level a little lower.

The only time HPOP reservoir oil level should ever be of any concern is when diagnosing hard start issues or oil pressure issues.

If the truck starts fine and runs fine, HPOP oil level is irrelevant.

I do have hard starting issues. won't start arround freezing, have to have it plugged in if its with 10-15 degrees of freezing. It gets worse the longer it sits, even in the summer. Sometimes it runs really rough, like it missing, until fully warmed up. I have seen white smoke on start up, but not all the time.

checks: gp good .6 omhs
gpr good - clicks reads 12.5 volts and done screw driver across the post, no diff
battery good - cranks fine, less than 2 years old
alternator good - 14v
scan tool - injector buzz - no codes
icp- spikes with cranking, idles at 600 psi

Thats making me look into lpop or ipr... any other thoughts? I'm at a loss and getting tired of finding a plug at the ski hill.

I'm goign to check the hpop after a few days of being parked and see if its draining somehow?

You say buzz passes no codes, but how does it sound? Are all the injectors discharging oil at cold start? Could be worn injectors causing this, as it does it when warm too,

the injectors all sounded the same to me, though this is the only buzz test I have ever done. i've read here that people listen to them, so I did the best could and ran it a couple times and listened. It didn't throw any codes. I thought it might be injectors too because it happens in warm temperatures, but not to the same extent. It always starts in the summer, just cranks alittle longer the more days its parked.

How do I check if all injectors discharge oil at a cold start?

Remove the valve covers and watch, at the 11o'clock position of each injector there is an oil spout it should "pulse" out with each firing.

awsome! I'll make that happen this weekend and let you know how it turns out. doesn't sound too difficult, and hope they spit oil cause injectors are a pricey fix.

Pricey yes, but not too terribly bad if you go with quality stock remans, Riffraff Diesel: Full Force Diesel / Casserly

You said you did a buzz test, it should sound crisp like this one, YouTube - Injector Buzz test Sept 14 2010, what about doing a cylinder contribution test or perdel readings those will help verify things. Do you have access to a quality scan tool?
