Dragging Front Brake
I have a 1994 Mercury Villager. I inheritated the van, it has low miles and gets 24 mpg. So can't complain, even though it's ugly. So here is the problem. The drivers front brake drags/sticks and in the distance of about 2 miles will start burning the brakes.
Here is what I have tried to fix the problem. New caliper, new rubber brake line, new master cylinder, new to me paportioning valve, and removed the fuses for the ABS. Forgot, yes it has ABS with no codes. I have a check engine light on, but it's for the O2 and EGR, otherwise no other codes or lights.
I have taken it to the local Ford dealer 3 times and they are just as stumped as I am. I have already spent 1/2 the value of the vehicle and not any further then when I started.
I will say that I have also had the right rear lock up at the same time as the left front. According to the shop manual the system is split LF-RR and RF-LR.
Where can I go next, what else can I check/do?
Try backing off the two nuts that hold the master cyl to the booster until you can pull the master cyl forward from the booster about 1/16in to 1/8in and see if that helps.
If it does you can adjust the pushrod a little to shorten it before tightening the nuts up again.
If it doesn`t help tighten the nuts up and think again.
Thanks for the idea, will give it a try. If I wasn't an insurance adjuster I would put full coverage on the vehicle and light it up. But that would be wrong, but then again I am getting to the point that it might happen anyways.
