77 ford f100 lookin into powerstroke swap

ok i got a built 400 in my 77 ford f100 shortwide. the more an more i see bout powerstrokes the more i want to do a swap. i was wondering just rought estimates what a good used powerstroke with computer etc would set me back. then is the auto or a zf 5 or 6 speed best an on average what it will set me back. an if my 8.8 rearend with 3.50's an a trok lok that i swapped outta my old 87 will handle it? just any ideas. also what is the best powerstroke as far as performance vs price?

figure going to 1 ton drivetrain plain and simple. also that F100 frame will need boxed to keep from twisting. I would then get a wrecked truck that has the motor/trans setup you wish to use. if you dont know how to weld figure the cost to increase substantially. I have many friends that have done CTD swaps into there 70's fords and with the motor and trans along with fab work it ran about $5K.

is your F100 2wd or 4wd?

mine is a 77 ford f100 shortwide 2wd. i can weld but it looks like a 5 yr old did it. as far as cummins an powerstroke which diesel is the cheapest with best performance. i got the mind set to build a hot rod f100 like i got but with a diesel powerplant. 5k is do able the 460 i planned to build the build sheet for it was bout 4500.

I would start with a 3/4 or 1 ton chassis. Perferabley 1 ton just to save the work of chassis up-grades.

Beyond that I do not know much about diesels.

i think cost depends on how cheap the donor rig is itself. I know the Cummins doesnt need to much wiring to get running vs the Powerstroke being more involved.

I have found 1 tons for less then $500 not running, and running ones for about a $1000.

Either one saves tons of work, and won't need to many mods to hold up to diesel power/weight.

If he does a 4bt swap like CarCrafter then a F100 with his 8.8 would be resonably durable if he is easy on the clutch.

I like the guy above would angle towards a 12V Cummins since they are the simplest to hook up.

I am interested in a diesel swap, but I would probily swap in a mild 302 and a turbo to gain my mpgs up.
