Diesel
"Can"? Yes.
But there is a lot more to it. Starting with rebuilding your chassis to handle the weight and torque, and drive train to handle the torque.
Plus the later models have electronic controls.
So, you would need a donor vehicle. Instead of buying a donor, buy a diesel truck and sell your F150.
Serving suggestion.

Or you could by a donor vehicle, scrap the body and put your f150 on it. Some of us like dentsides with modern drive trains and suspensions. EG, 78 f350 custom cab dually on 89 f350 dually chassis with a 460 5 spd and rear axle and suspension from a 88 f450. Plus the body from a 79 f350 that some drunk hit.
The 89 has true ball joint front suspension with front and rear sway bars, various other parts, shorter wheel base and is lighter than the 78. The 88 has the 19.5" wheels, rear axle with disc brakes and heavier duty rear suspension, hydroboost brake system and various other parts. I've got $1,250 into the parts vehicles and they've paid for them selves with lots of extra metal. Enough to build a truck box, gantry crane system, 2 hydraulic hoist systems..........etc.... The 79 got me $1,500 from insurance and cost nothing to buy as I had a grant that needed to be spent and my Landlady can tell a convincing sob story so that covered plates and registration.
Anything is possible, plan, analyze the plan, replan, reanalyze and be prepared to make corrections. Have the skill sets, tools and space required, then do it and ignore anyone who doesn't have positive input.
