ok im sure by "squaking noise" you all wonder what i have been smoking, nothing, i can assure you, but when its cold out, i hear the loudest squak/squealling noise for about 2 seconds on startup then it goes away, its not pulleys, and its not my belt, ive already checked these... but im kinda lost as to what else it could be.. i was thinking maybe the waterpump? i know some pumps make a funny noise before they go out, but this noise has gone on for a couple months now, and only when its very cold out...
My first thought would be the bearings in the idler or tensioner
pulley, but you said you have eliminated those...
The next thing that will sometimes make a noise on a cold start
is the IAC valve. It is bolted to the throttle body, and has an
electrical connection to it. Try unplugging the electrical connector
on it to see if the noise goes away. You may have to crack open the throttle a little to keep it running, because the idle will be
real low with the connector disconnected. If this verifies that
the noise is coming from the IAC, you can first try cleaning
it.....good luck!!!!
I have a 98 ranger and had hte smae trouble. Spent lots of money on parts that didn't work. Come to find out the belt was too small. The automatic tensioner just would let it slide on. But when released it would **** to one side a little. Squeeled only on start up at first. Couple of months later it got progressively worse. The facotry belt was a 5060880. Changed to a 885 and had no troubles. In case you didn't know the last three digits of a belt are it's length in inches. 88.5 inches
I sprayed a little WD-40 in the slot where the tensioning spring is located. Maybe this will help. So far its not really a problem. It does not make the noise very often and only on first start and when its cold outside(around 32F and below)
The belt wasn't too small originally. As you work on your truck things are going to change. Aftermarket pulleys, altenators, and pumps are designed to be multifunctional. Due to this the size of the belt may need to be changed. Unless everything on you truck is STOCK, you may be out of spec on your OEM belt.
I have a 98 Ranger with the 3.0.
I have also found that after driving in wet conditions the A/C compressor and/or the altenator may squeek. I like to spray my pulleys with CRC after driving in standing water.
My 3.0 squeaks at start up when thier is alot of moisture or rain. I use some baby powder to puff on the belt. It stops it every time, almost immediately. Sounds crazy, but it works. Stays good for a while based on weather conditions(Only squeaks when its wet out).
