need f250 advice.

im looking at6 an 84 and two 87 f250's right now. anywhere in price from 2500 to 3999. on the 84's had the turbo been used commenly yet? what should i check for and what should i leary of. this would my first work truck and my dieasel truck. i would be pulling cars and my b2 with it. ive decided that since we always have a down car itd be nice just to load a trailor and take it home for repairs instead of a big towbill and a jack ### that wants to do it the wrong way (i.e. not strapping it up good (if on dolly) or bending my chrome bumpers. i just cant stand it no more and whant to take care of this stuff myself. the most i would expect to pull with it would be about 3k to 15k lbs but it would see some work use.

The rubo diesels werent introduced untill the 90's.. with the 93 turbo diesel i believe, then the powerstroke in 95. You asked about whether the turbos were used commonly in the 80's.. if those trucks have a turbo they must have been added.... maybe a banks system or similar.
