Long story short: After pulling a heavy load, 5th wheel, I have to add coolant. 1 quart to 1/2 gal. White residue in engine compartment. Ford place said 4400 without even looking at the truck. Took truck to local mech. and he said that most of the issues are with the EGR cooler. Anyway 750 for EGR block and if it is the head gaskets it will run about 3000. He suggested I order and install the Sinister coolant filter. It is on order. Anything else?
The 1st thing I would do is to change degas cap to see if the one on there now prematurely opened up to spill the coolant. I would also check the oil/coolant spread before jumping into internal repairs. Another thing to check is degas pressure and the presence of exhaust gas.
Sorry. Should have mentioned that I have already changed the cap and there was no change. One thing I did notice is that the coolant in the degas bottle seems to be much darker than what come from the dealer.
Edit: This is a 2005 truck with a SCT Live Wire tunner. I do all of my regular driving in the 120 HP tune and all of my pulling in the 65 HP tune. How do I check the Delta T of the coolant to oil. I cannot find the oil temp option on my tunner. Coolant temp runs 188*F unless doing heavy pulling then the engine get hot enough for the fan to come on. Sorry for the information being spread out over multiple posts.
John I just installed my edge insight today So not sure if this will help. In the menu their is a Ford specific paramaters I went to temp pid's then ford sensor pid's. That took me to Diesel engine oil temp
OK I picked up the NAPA leak test kit yesterday and I do have an exhaust leak into the cooling system, just do not know why.....yet. I downloaded all of the updates for the SCT Livewire and still have no way of getting the delta T for the coolant to oil. I will keep yall updated. Thanks for all the help.
Just a quick update. EGR cooler was leaking, deleted. Replaced oil cooler said that the screen under it was split. Two days and just under $1300 later all is well. I will be installing the coolant filter probably this weekend.

Where are you located. Always good to know reputable indy mechanics. Maybe that should go in the tech folder.
