I have a 2000 F-250 Crew cab Super Duty with a 5.4L. It has a hypertech Power Programmer, thottle body spacer and a K&N cold air intake system. I'm only getting about 6 miles to the gallon. I'm not sure what else to do to increse the fuel milage. Anybody have a suggestion

Need more info indeed.
2WD or 4WD?
Gear ratio?
Tire size?
City / Hwy?
Miles on truck?
Towing or not?
There is a lot that can affect mileage, but without the basic info there's no way to tell what is going on.
Mileage sounds on par for a 5.4L with that big of lift and tires and mixed driving. Lower gears could help some, but not enough to recover the cost of a gear change. Best advice is to keep your speed down, drive with a light foot, and lower the truck back down.
I dont think it should be THAT bad.. 7-9 yes, but 6 seems really low. Try doing a full tune up, plugs etc.
And the CAI isnt doing you any good besides looking cool and filtering less
might seem like a no brainer but i'm running 35x12.5x17's on mine and i noticed if i don't keep good air pressure in the tires the trucks rolls harder and takes more effort to get going. may not be significant difference in mpg but like was said above there are many different variables and every little bit helps.
6 sounds about right for an aggressivish driver in a truck like that.
If you are already driving like an old lady:
If you haven't cleaned your MAF recently, do that. K&N's are famous for hurting mpg (and driveability) due to oil and dirt contaminating the MAF.
Changed spark plugs and O2 sensors in last 50K miles? That may help.
And for serious mpg improvements:
Figure roughly 1 mpg per inch smaller in tires.
Type of tire matters as well. If you're currently running M/T's, going to an HT may get you as much as 2 mpg, A/T should be more than 1.
And 1/4 to 1/2 mpg per inch of suspension drop.
These are all rough numbers... putting a shorter but wider tire won't help. It is all about rotating weight, aerodynamic drag, rolling resistance, and other physics at work.
A shorter, skinnier tire could definately help. Less rotating mass, engine works less to excellerate vehicle. You have to grossly over oil a K&N filter to get it to foul the mass air. Otherwise I feel a k&n can contribute to fuel mileage, engine breathes easier.
WOW 6 mpg? I get better than that with my V-10 ... lol. I have the same truck you do ( 2000 f-250 crew cab ) other than the motor and I have 35x12.5-18 Nitto Mud Grapplers on it. I get about 10 to 12 in the city and around 14 on the highway. My truck has 3.73's in it right now but im going to go with the 4.30's hopefully be summer. A gear change would give your truck a little more power and a little better fuel mileage. However with the V-8 you probably would be better to go with the 4.56's over the 4.30's.
Well I replaced the plugs and all the insulators cleaned the air filter. I researched the K&N air intake system before I purchased it and I'm surprised everyone says it hurts the fuel milage. I also checked the tire presure. I'll check the mileage this week an report if anything helped.
Get rid of the throttle body spacer too. Have your ECU programmed for the revolutions per mile on the 35s (makes a difference, believe me) Your hypertech may or may not allow you to do that. Finally, dump the hypertech and contact Mike at 5 star tuning for an SCT with custom tunes.
You should be able to get around 10 mpg that way.
If you can afford it, get some 4.56 gears. Your mpg and power will be greatly improved.

The K&N hurts only once it contaminates the MAF. Until then, it is about the same in vehicles with well designed stock filters (like these trucks) and HELPS in vehicle with undersized or restrictive intake systems and filters (like those selected by K&N to use in their ads)
I don't know if it will help, but I just got this advice on a G6 I own. After a couple of months of great gas mileage, it just went down the tubes. I mean I eat up more gas than in my 2008 350 Super Duty. Jumped on a blog for a focus and found this advice. You never know. The note read that when they fail, car seems to run normally, but fuel consumption increases dramatically. Hope it helps.
