Secbyte,
This is an 8 year old post, these are for research not being brought back from the LONG dead.
As a moderator for this sub-forum, I STRONGLY disagree with your statement.
Any and all threads are welcomed to be "brought back from the LONG dead" if someone has a question, comment, idea, concern or just wants to say thanks for the original post. We pride ourselves on being helpful when people need it most.
I encourage you to revive a long dead thread of you feel the need or desire. I also encourage you to ignore revived threads if you feel you must comment with something destructive or condescending in nature.
I would agree with Sous. When it popped up I thought it's an old thread but it was something I was unaware of. I read all of it and was glad to have one more piece of info about our vehicles
Sous,
I do research on here and read old posts but try to refrain from adding things unless, as would be appropriate in this case, it was to tell everybody about a new heavy duty shifter tube.
My record on here (as well as the other sub forums I participate on) speaks for itself. I constantly help when I can and don't talk down to folks. Second, I did not say anything "destructive or condescending in nature". I just said what typically is the case and others have brought this same subject up on old post in the past. Third, he talks about a '94 Ford F-350 and a GMC, neither of which are covered in this forum. Nor did they do any of the items you posted such as " if someone has a question, comment, idea, concern or just wants to say thanks for the original post." Maybe you, as a moderator, can advise them there are more appropriate forums for his '94 F-350 than the 99-03 7.3 Power Stroke Diesel.
And yes, I will try to have good night when I report for work tonight as a front line supervisor on the thin blue line starting my 29th year today, after also serving 7 in the Corps.
p.s. Thanks for your service here and in the military.

First, thank you for your service and for what you do every day to protect and serve those of us that sleep comfortably in our homes. I thank a first responder for doing what they do every chance I get.
We just have differing opinions on why a thread should be revived or not, and that is OK.

whether or not an old thread should be revived is small patatoes in the scheme of life. I just want to say thank you sir for what you do every day. Our LE have been beat down hard recently in this country and it is not deserved in any way. Please know there are many out here that strongly support you and pray for your safety. Be safe and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
A shifter that is HARD to shift is likely due to a sticky neutral safety switch in our trucks.
I have rebuilt and replaced a bunch of shift tubes, but never more than once. A sloppy shifter is often loose bolts on the bottom of the shift tube or worn bushings that eventually result in broken brackets.
^^^^ this^^^^
i also have replaced many shift tubes. many years ago i started to tell them they need a NSS too because the one on the trans is seized and caused the shift tube to break before even taking on the job. when they get the truck back, first thing i hear is oh wow, this truck shifter never felt this easy!

Is there a write up on replacing the shift tube? Or the NSS? I just posted a new thread today asking for this type of info.
