I just put two full bottles of R134A in my 04 sepercrew and it made it stopped idling rough, thank god, but my new question is!
Assuming the system is'nt leaking does R134A disapate? if not than what happens to it in order to make the system run low. or do i have a leak somewhere?
if i have a leak whats the best way to find where it is?
If you had to put in 2 cans of R134a then you have a leak somewhere. Start by listening to the truck after you shut the engine off. Inspect all of the A/C fittings and hoses for any oily places around the fittings. Normally a leaking fitting will collect oil and dirt around the leak. Or put a can of R134a with UV dye in it. Look for the leak with a black light or any light that will light up u.v. dye, some parts houses sell a small kit with the light included. They work pretty good and aren't too expensive.
Some times, you can get a leak coming out of the compressor output shaft in the winter. Once it warms up, there is no leak anymore. If that is the case, you wouldnt find a leak anywhere. I would have it looked at if the two bottles you just put in, are gone in the near future. R134A is harmfull to the enviroment, and here in canada needs to be repaired by a certified tech. Pressure testing with nitrogen must be done to ensure there is no leak. As far as finding the leak yourself, using a soap and water solution, and spary it over everything and look for bubbles.
Mine came from the factory 2 lbs. short on R134a. This was a common occurence back then. I have seen others with the same issue. I don't have a leak. The AC never worked well from the beginning. I took it to the dealer and told them to recharge the system w/o doing a leak check. They did a leak check anyway, but now my AC works well.
I think it is common practice, but the service manager called me even, before they did the leak test, and verified with me that I did NOT want it done. What do I see on the invoice? Leak test and associated cost. I had them take off the charge. At least I know for sure it holds gas, though.
yea your right i was just checking because i figured there was probobly a law saying they had to do it no matter what even if the customer doesnt want it, and by the customer saying no it is a good way to get out from under the cost. I think i will take mine in i just want to see if it leaks out a bunch within a month or so.
