Hello Everyone...I will be towing my 8800 lb 5th wheel over Cabbage Hill in Oregon at the end of June. It is about 12 miles of 6% grade going up. Going to Salt Lake City area. I will be using my signature truck.
I will flush my system using Gooch's Flush Procedure...installing all new hoses...16lb radiator cap...and will use 2 gallons of Fleetcharge antifreeze and a bottle and a half of Supercoolant. My system works fine now, just want to make sure it is in top condition before I go.
Will this help prevent overheating while crossing the mountains....or should I remove thermostat until I get in the flatlands?
I would not remove the stat. Everything thing else you have done will help you through the hills. If you were to do anything else to it, a pusher e-fan on the front of the radiator would insure that additional air was being pushed through the rad at lower speeds.
Thanks Guys...Yeah my truck can handle my 5'ver with no problem. I just haven't climbed Cabbage hill with it hooked up to the 5th wheel. After doing more research I found it is NOT good to run my 6.9 or any other diesel without a thermostat. Something to do with combustion temps etc...
I also like the pusher fan idea for added cooling at lower speeds pulling the passes. I found one for $70.00. It is a Hayden eFan that I can set the on/off temp range.
