Axle codes? Strange find!

I have found a possible purchase but I'm told the door sticker has an axle code of C0 rather then any of the following.
31 — 3.73 non-limited slip, F-250/Excursion
C1 — 3.73 limited slip, F-250/Excursion
32 — 4.10 non-limited slip, F-250
C2 — 4.10 limited slip, F-250/Excursion
33 — 4.30 non-limited slip, F-250
C3 — 4.30 limited slip, F-250/Excursion

Anyone have an idea what this ratio would be. I suspect something in the 3.55 range. When I run the VIN "1FMNU41S3YED71259" I come up with a V10 in the "265-275hp" range. This almost sounds like some special order truck. The link is here:2000 Ford Excursion SUV I'm told by the dealer it has "7 lug axles".

Here is the link to the CARFAX for that excursion. Looks like a run of the mill XLT. I'm guessing they are reading the axle code wrong. Last time I checked my excursion has eight lugs holding the wheels on. He's looking at the wheel covers - remove the hubcap and you will find all eight lug nuts.

BTW, the price is too high - if you get serious about it talk them down - way down....

Agree with that, does look like hub caps...
Also probably reading code wrong, older (about 1998) f250 light duties had a C9 option (3.55) and also had a 7 lugs... But would be very strange someone would order that nonsense.

yep steel wheels with plastic wheel covers. it has 8 lugs, trust me on that.

i'm going to take a good guess and say 3:73 open rearend.

looks clean..but the price could come down a good bit.

Alaskan ex, I bet you $1, if the ford code starts with a C it's a limited slip.

if they cant even read it right i'm going to say it possible is not. being that its a pretty bare bones truck(steel wheels) i'm going to guess it doesnt have a LS.

also, my late build 2000 did not have a code for the axle on the door tag, which seems to be common... something else to ponder...

I agree that a few 2000 models had no markings under axle code, but if this one says C anything it should be a c series (limited slip).

Maybe whom ever ordered this x had little money but felt the need for LSD. Maybe for snow or whatever.

You also never know maybe guy reading code maybe looking at something else or making it up.

You seam like a nice guy, if you would like il send you the dollar anyway.

lol naw i'm just taking an educated guess since i cant look at the truck first hand. i'm just thinking they arent looking at the correct code IMO

if it is a LS i'm gonna feel really jipped since my limited has a open rearend and i hate it!

What I love most is the ad says it has "alloy wheels". Well I guess steel is an alloy, right?
Their email back to me mentioned "Retail: $13,995 Today's Sale Price: $8,925" I did an online Edmunds TMV evaluation and a "clean" one is only worth about $7200 while an "outstanding" is $8200. Not sure what the salesman is smoking, but $13k is totally out of it.

I don't think the price is totally out of line for a clean 2000 with low miles. It falls right around KBB retail price for that truck. I would try to talk him down a little but there are a lot of Excursions up here in the Pacific NW with a lot more miles for more money.

It looks in good shape but that is what I paid for mine 3 years ago with 112,000 miles on it. I used to have a link to a vin decoder but can't seem to find it. If you like the truck and it makes you happy go for it.

It wasn't possible to order an Excursion that way. Ford wouldn't build it. The parts were not in the plant, and Ford doesn't build special order trucks. They will build to order, but only what is offered. You can't order parts that are not available on that model.

I just checked mine and it's just what I suspected...Axle code of 31. No wonder it sucked in 2wd er...1wd this winter!

I wonder how much it would cost to do an axle swap from the junk yard.

swapping an axle on these things for a used one is about the same cost as getting a detroit tru-trac which is why i plan on going with one of them in the near future.
