removing valve cover
Now, I'm almost sure my 352 has never been rebuilt.
Any susggestions for getting the valve cover off. It is being pretty stubborn! I've whacked it with a rubber mallet, wedged a screw driver between it and the head and it's not moving.
I've got what I thought was an exhaust leak, but sounds like it's in the valve cover or head. Am I looking at a bad valve, pushrod or spring?

It came off after another beer...I mean. after a little more force in the use of the rubber mallet.
Still can't tell what the noise is, it's internal but sounds like an exhaust leak. The truck runs pretty good.
Any ideas appreciated!

I here ya, but I didn't feel anything around the head gasket or header gaskets.
I went underneath and so did my friend, we both think it's internal. Nothing obvious after the valve cover was off.
It may be a bad lifter , but the sound is much "SOFTER" than I am use to.

It runs pretty good, I'd like for the second truck to be a runner if not pretty. I was surprisd how good this 352 runs.
The noise is pretty loud and annoying. A real jalope mating call :-)

How about doing a compression check? That should tell you what kind of shape the engine is in. I had a friend with a 351w that had a 3/8 wide hunk of exhaust valve missing. He drove it like that for 6 months before replacing the engine.
