Cool IP replacement - help!

Got the new IP and injectors; out with the old parts, in with new. Decided to go ahead and check the GPs while I was in there and found a bad one, and replaced.
Replaced the fuel filter while I was at it and filled with ATF.
Cranked the engine a couple times and nothing. Was hoping to at least see some unburnt diesel coming from the tail pipe but nothing.
Popped off the return fuel line from the filter and fuel sprays out.
Suspecting that the IP isn't working I remove one of the fuel lines from an injector and then put a multimeter inline with the power wire to the IP.
A friend tries to start the truck while I watch.
The IP is getting power but no fuel is coming out of the fuel line.
What the heck is going on. Seems to be a problem with the rebuilt IP but I'm REALLY hoping that isn't the case. What have I missed?

It should take a while for the IP to fill up. I personally will never put ATF in a new fuel filter, Diesel Kleen, yes. If I was in your shoes, I would dump the ATF and put diesel or a diesel additive in the fuel filter and then try to start(just my personal preference). I haven't started my truck since my new IP yet but I would assume that it will take alot of cranking to fill it up before it will put fuel out to the lines.

hmmmm, and people still complain about the electric pumps, all i had to do was not be a dork and crack the injector lines and boom, fired right up. Yeah so i would prime a new pump if i had a mechanical fuel pump and i would tighten any of the injector lines until it was wet at each one because like me you are air locked, i bet you hear a hiss at each injector nut when you loosen them. ATF in a brand new IP, youre serious, what it is already dirty inside? What ATF did you use, you had better say type F. Get that **** out of there and fill it with diesel. its not dirty.....
ITS NEW!!!

Type F Automatic Transmission Fluid and Power Steering Fluid

Motorcraft® ATF Type F is recommended by Ford Motor Company. It is a high-static friction fluid developed for Ford automatic transmissions manufactured during the 1970’s and earlier. The special frictional properties of Motorcraft® ATF Type F ensure proper shifting in Ford transmissions that require a fluid meeting ESW-M2C33-F. It is also recommended for power steering systems in a wide variety of Ford Vehicles calling for a Type F fluid, built prior to Model Years 1996-1998. Check Owner Guide for proper application
Motorcraft® ATF Type F resists foaming and protects against rust, corrosion, wear and deposits. Its low viscosity makes it suitable not only for Ford power steering units, but also as a hydrostatic drive fluid for many farm implements and certain industrial equipment applications
Motorcraft® ATF Type F should not be used in newer transmissions requiring MERCON® LV, MERCON® V or MERCON® SP
Refer to the Motorcraft® ATF Type F specification sheet at Buy Motorcraft Parts Online | Official Motorcraft Auto Parts Site | FordParts.com and www.fmcdealer.dealerconnection.com for additional information. For MSDS information call 1-800-448-2063
...........

when i tried trans fluid once,i used a quart of mercon.

MERCON® V Automatic Transmission and Power Steering Fluid

Motorcraft® MERCON® V is a premium-quality automatic transmission fluid recommended by Ford Motor Company for use in Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles that require either MERCON® V or MERCON® type fluid. This product also provides excellent performance in electronically controlled automatic transmissions
Motorcraft® MERCON® V is manufactured with high-viscosity index, premium-quality, hydroprocessed base oils and specially designed performance additives, which provide excellent shifting characteristics at high and low ambient temperatures, excellent thermal and oxidation resistance and good low temperature fluidity. It provides wear protection and inhibits the formation of gum, sludge, lacquer and foam. It also provides protection against rust and corrosion. It is dyed red for ease of leak detection
Do not use in applications where MERCON® SP, MERCON® LV, Continuously Variable Chain Type Transmission Fluid, Motorcraft® Premium Automatic Transmission Fluid, FNR5 Automatic Transmission Fluid or Type F Automatic Transmission Fluid is recommended, or in transfer cases
Motorcraft® MERCON® V is suitable for use as a hydraulic oil in a wide variety of industrial applications that call for an ISO 46 or SAE 20W viscosity grade hydraulic oil
Refer to the Motorcraft® MERCON® V specification sheet at Buy Motorcraft Parts Online | Official Motorcraft Auto Parts Site | FordParts.com and www.fmcdealer.dealerconnection.com for additional information. For MSDS information call 1-800-448-2063
Note: MERCON® V Automatic Transmission Fluid is available in bulk quantities at substantial savings. Use of bulk oil products is environmentally proactive. Contact your FCSD Afterma

CAUTION:
using auto trans fluid will turn your fuel red,and can appear the same as non taxed off road diesel fuel!
calling your local DOT officer for details is strongly advised first!

Talked to my friend who's a diesel mechanic today and he told me to crank with the injector lines cracked and then to tighten the lines as fuel comes out. Is there any reason to put anything other than diesel in a new IP? I would put diesel kleen in but I don't really see a reason to. I would never put straight ATF though.

where were you going with that? Stating type F is good or Merc V or? None of them have a place in our engines with the creation of things like diesel kleen and howes. But you definitely wouldnt want to use merc V to my knowledge. ATF's are to be use as cleaners, and NEVER should be considered lubricity additives or similar....ever. They create friction, not something an IP really wants.

You can also run a jumper to the cold idle solenoid from the battery to advance it and push more fuel while you are getting it first going. Learned that one post install. Not 100% convinced but it might help. There is also the nut on the passenger side of the IP that can be cracked to let out air but mainly the injector lines need to be loose to let air pass through. If i wasnt so scared of messing up a new pump i would pop the top off and prime it that way as well haha.
