1988 150 302 EFI cold start problem

Truck is difficult to start when cold. Once it starts it runs fine. Idles right away. When starting the first time in the morning and the temp. is below ~ 40 it might take 20 turns of the key. When the temp. is above ~ 70 it starts 1 or 2 key turns. Always starts fine when warmed-up. The EFI temp. sensor checks fine. The Air By-Pass has been cleaned. Engine is tuned. I have KOEO code 34 and KOER code 34 and 44. Installed a new EVP sensor. Can an EGR valve cause this? Anyone have any suggestions, other than move to warmer area? Thanks.

is the fuel pump running everry time you turn the key? Also have you tried running heet through the system? It will help prevent the fuel from freezing at low temps.

I'm not sure what 34 means as applied to your truck, but 44 sounds like an electrical problem with the 2 smaller solenoid valves that control the bypass/diverter valve. 34 may mean the same about the larger one that controls the EGR.

The fuel pump is running every time. The only common cause is temperature. The temperature is above freezing. I ran the truck this morning. The temperature was 50. It took eight, 2 second, turns of the starter. It then started and idled fine. Again, if the temperature is above 70 is starts within one or two turns of the starter. I have found that running the starter over two seconds does not help. I have tried pressing the acelerator, but have found that doesn't help. If the truck doesn't start right away I back off the key and start over. I use regular gas, always have. I plan on replacing the EGR valve and the Air-Bypass Valve next, This may fix the code 34 and 44. The truck has about 100k miles and figure it needs it anyway. Thanks Again.

Replacing those parts will have no effect on those codes because the computer doesn't monitor those parts. They're not electrical. The computer only monitors things with electric circuits that are connected directly to the computer, like the solenoid valves that CONTROL the EGR & bypass/diverter valves.
