VGT reading help- idle 42 max full throttle 7

Cold start idle 42 High idle 34
Normal operating temps idle 38 full throttle 7
Also have a p0299 code.
Truck runs fine, no lack of power.
Need/want to check EBP sensor and MAP for cleaning before removing and cleaning the turbo. Any other suggestions? All reading taken with scangauge 2. Thanks

WOT I see about 15%, deceleration I see around 70% and steady cruise and idle is around 5055%

We might have different strategies, which is most likely, but my readings seem to be fairly normal.

P0299, turbo underboost is no bueno.

My VGT% is 65 - 70 at idle and somewhere in the 50's when cruising

Start with cleaning the turbo. But if no loss of power or overboosting or any smoke out exhaust i dont know. Ive never seen 7% at WOT! Ive heard these turbos are supposed to cycle from 0-100 tho. Ever see it at 100%?

Thanks for the replies. My vgt% readings on the scangauge never go above 42% cold idle or 38% hot idle. This truck is my second 6.0 I've owned. The last one I had a turbo go out and that thing could barely move after that. This truck runs awesome with it floored. I think I'm missing some boost on the low rpm range, which would coincide with my vgt readings. I'm trying to eliminate other things that tell the turbo what to do before taking it off and cleaning/replacing it. Got my Scanguage set up now for bmp(barometric pressure), map, and ebp. Just trying to do my homework on how to read and interpret all these readings. For example, with KOEO (key on engine off), map and bmp read 14.5 and 14.7. Good right? Now ebp I'm still trying to figure out... And figure out if I need to clean it or if my truck (2/04 build date) even uses the ebp sensor still due to flash updates??? And here's the newest monkey wrench- vgt actuator? Still trying to figure out what that is and how to test it.
To make a long story short, I'm trying to learn as much about this truck before I go tearing into the hardware of it when it seems like the software will tell you more about what is actually wrong. It could save many hours of knuckle busting and curse words. my worst fear is endingd up back where I started with no better answer to the original question- what's making this p0299 code? Thanks for for taking the time to read this rant.

The VGT actuator is the solenoid valve that actually moves the exhaust inlet vanes in the turbo. My guess would be those inlet vanes may be stuck in a spot somewhere in the middle that allows low boost in the lower RPM range causing your code and as engine RPM's come up is able to make sufficient boost. Here are a couple links, https://www.ford-trucks.com/ford-man...nician_Q&A.pdf and https://www.ford-trucks.com/ford-man...e%20Engine.pdf hope these help.

On the highway, mine reads around 50. If I step on it, it goes to around 30 and if I let go the pedal rapidly after boosting it to max, it will drop to 14, but not allways. 14 is the lowest I ever saw on mine.

Iddle is around 70 but I saw it in the 80 a few rare time.
